| Nordley again :) Well it was the usual tale this week. Went down on monday evening for about two hours. Was floater fishing for carp using dog biscuits loose and an enterprise artificial on the hook. I really don't know what my mental block was on these as I've used plugs, spinners and flies and never thought about it. For some reason plastics just didn't seem to make sense. Monday was exactly as I thought it would be. An hour before sunset and the carp where near the surface. As light levels dropped the fish were slurping biscuits like mad. Missed at least 6 fish and cursed under my breath a lot. Having said that I find surface carp fishing and mullett fishing similar. Your heart is in your mouth all the time and it's a magical way to NOT catch fish :) Tuesday and it was same lake (there are six here, I was on two) other side away from a couple of anglers who had already settled down. Had one bank to myself. Looking (with my new lasered and apparently bionic eyes) I could see movement just under the surface so stopped to drop a few biscuits in and have a look around. If anything the fish were even more up for it. Before I got started though I had to find out what the heck was going on in a tree root to my left. It looked like a huge ball of rudd or roach were "at it", good to see (no not in a pervy way) as it might help replenish some of the stocks of silver fish that the RSPB are claiming were not killed off by all those bloody cormorants that used to sit on the aeriators (before my time with BAA). This time I decided to hair rig the artificial and also to add a bait band to put a real biscuit on two. The upshot was that I landed two fish , one around 10LB and one of 15LB both of which scrapped their hearts out. ![]() An enjoyable two days because the blank on day one lead to a rethink and a result on day two. I don't know about anyone else, I find that the most rewarding thing in angling. That and using a surface controller I had made myself too. Strangely I noticed an aniseed smell near the tree roots (the fish were at it the whole time I was there). I'm wondering if that smell , similar to peeler crab, is a universal food signal in both fresh and slt water. No doubt most of the rudd/roach eggs will end up being eaten. Hmm! __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
