| Back to basics After a dismal start to the year with too many blanks to remember I decided to ditch most of my bulky carp gear and take my 4 year old son out to a local pond armed with feeder rod for me and a small whip for him, along with some maggots or "Magnets" as my son calls them. We arrived at the pond to find every peg vacant apart from a mother duck and her newly born ducklings. The surface was alive with carp slurping their way through the local insect and plant life. I must admit I was ill prepared as my intentions were to feeder fish but I managed to find a few bread crusts in my bag from a previous session and an old bubble float. I set my lad up with the whip and he was happily pulling out roach after roach ( with my supervision of course). I chucked my bread flake out to the far side and after distracting the ducks with maggots I was in to my first fish which turned out to be a modest 5lb mirror, my lad took the pic so its a bit wonky ![]() After that my boy fell asleep on my chair so I decided to cut the session short but not atfer a few more chucks which resulted in a 6lb common and a 8lb common. Not bad for 3 hours considering most of the time was spent shooing ducks away. My lad enjoyed the time and I will definitely be returning for a longer session loaf in hand |

| Re: Back to basics Looks a cracking session, and there's nothing I have found to be more pleasing than catching carp on light tackle. For those that have'nt tried it I really do suggest trying a bit of the old feeder fishing. |
