| Quick session at shearwater Went out today for a family day out (picnic and fresh air) hoping to teach my son how to fish (hes 3) He showed no interest apart from splashing his little net into the shallows by the jetty. So I set my feeder rod up. Whilst I was doing this the wife was feeding the ducks with a loaf of bread and of course the carp came along to join the feast, so I grabbed myself some slices and stuck it on to my size 14 hook attached by a 3.1/2 lb hooklength to a 4 lb mainline and cast in expecting to have no chance with such light tackle. Before I had even tightened the line and sat down the tip bent around and I was in (bloody hell) what a great scrap I had after a few minutes I landed a nice common with my wife maning the net I didnt have my scales so couldnt weigh it but I reckon it was around the 7-8 lb mark. took some nice pics and released the little beauty and looked back to the swim only to see the fight had spooked the rest of the carp so I hooked a couple of maggots on and cast in and managed to catch 4 perch all this in 45 minutes. Awesome experience. ![]() My nice little carp![]() The best of the perch ![]() |
