| Crockerton surprise on Saturday the 8th dad picked me up at 6.30am to be at Longleat for 7am to meet my brother.got to the gate at 7.50am to find 2 people waiting got down to the lake and after seeing the dam wall full and my brother near the middle i decided to fish behind the island by the waterfall as i have never fished that end before and the guy last week pulled out 4 carp. so set up my 3 rods i fished close to the island with my left rod my middle rod was on the far bank by some rushes and my right rod was to an over hanging bush next to the waterfall all 3 rods was set up on rigs and bait combos i have cought on before at Longleat. was all set-up and fishing by 7.55am just after 8.20am my middle rod tore off i was in the middle of putting up my bivvy so garbed the rod lifted into the fish i could not gain any line back or stop the fish it kept taking line it was rod the back of the island so whacked on the brakes hoping i could stop it line went tight rod bent right round i walked up the back to get a better angle at the fish i managed to stop it and gain some line but could feel the line grating against a snag by the island i gained some line but the fish got snagged so put it the rod down back on bait runner hoping the fish would free its self after about 10mins the fish was off again and was free off the snag i managed to gain some ground and go the fish under control in open water after about 20mins i had it in netting range reached for the net got the net in the water and it tore off again heading straight for the back of the island again so locked up solid again but ended up breaking my 12lb hooklink. at 8.46am my left rod went off and after a very easy fight i netted a 18lb mirror i couldn't believe how easy it came in ive had 2lb carp put up a better fight the carp looked in mint condition. when i put it back i mad sure it was ready and pulled off hard out my hands. just after 9am my brother came over to see how i got on and to say my dad had a 24lb ghost carp. that was it for the rest of the session. me and my dad packed on Sunday and left the lake just after 11am and got dropped off at Crockerton by 11.30am. when i got to the lake there was allot of people fishing was going to give peg 7 or 13 ago but there was people in pegs5,6,7,9 and 15 so that end of the lake was very busy so decided to go in peg 1. so dropped my gear in peg 1 and went round the lake chatting to the people fishing to find out how its was going. i then set up my gear and put the 2 rods out by 12.20am at after 20mins my right hand rod went off lifted into it to find a very hard fighting carp after a few mins it was in the net a nice 11lb common with the help of steve ![]() thanks for the help and taking the pic. at 5pm i broght 1 rod in and set up my float rod and had 2 bream and loads of perch and roach every think was quiet so at 9pm i decided to set up 1 rod for eels after the help and the advice from 2 experts thanks guys. that was the target fish for the night on this session. so by 9.30am my rig was in the water. then at just before 11pm my eel rod went off i was so excited i hit it to early and missed the fish so re baited and cast back out just after 11.30pm it was off again this time i let it take allot more line was holding the rod and line and could feel the eel after a few mins more i lifted into it again i missed it so re baited and cast out. at 12.15am it was off again this time a slower take so again i let it take line this time left it a bit longer an lifted into it again i missed it so re baited and cast out had 3 more takes till 2am and missed them all. at 2.30am i re baited my right rod for the carp and cast it in i fired out some boilies, pellets and hemp.just before 3am the carp rod went off with a 6lb mirror followed by a 8lb common at 3.36am then at 3.56am i had a 13lb mirror then was in again at 4.28am with a 5lb common then at 4.50am the eel rod went off it was off at speed taking line like the first 2 runs i had so gave it plenty of time and lifted into it and this time i was in after about 10mins i landed my 2nd ever eel not both cought from Crockerton this one was smaller but still was a nice size was very rigerly on the mat till i unhooked it then i covered its eyes and ran my wet hand down its sides then it was like it was asleep it stayed still so took my pics then weighed it it was 2 1/2lb returned it to the water and re-baited and cast out. ![]() ![]() then at 5.36 my right hand rod went off a nice 7lb mirror re-baited and cast out then at 5.58am i had another nice little 5lb mirror. then at 6.27am i had a 13lb common. re-baited and cast out onto my baited spot. ![]() i then decided at 7am i would bring the eel rod in as it was very light out and set it back up for carp so then put it out to my left in the margin.i got back into bed had a few hours sleep then was woken up by the geese and gate so got up had some food brought my rods in and walked round the lake to find 5 people set up and fishing so had a chat with some of them. then went back to fishing. at 12.04pm my left hand rod went off with a nice little 6lb common. ![]() reset up and cast out. then at 13.11 my right hand rod went off with a nice 9lb common . ![]() then again at 1.45pm my right rod was off again with a 6lb mirror. at 3.30pm i brought in my left hand rod and fished with my float rod cashing loads of perch and roach a few small bream and 1 rudd then a little bit of a surprise i cought a gudgeon fished till 8pm on the float had a 3lb common on my right rod at 6pm. ![]() ![]() me and dad agreed to pack up at pm but dad never had no carp it was 8.37 when my right had rod went off and i landed the biggest carp of the session a 16lb common so that was when we called it a day. ![]() ![]() ![]() was a great session and cought a few target fish for the species hunt and my main target the eel there was only 1 fish that Crockerton holds that i didn't get in this session and that was a tench witch was a shame. perch ![]() ![]() rudd ![]() ![]() ![]() roach ![]() ![]() ![]() bream ![]() gudgeon ![]() ![]() will be over Crockerton again Thursday and Friday targeting the eels. |

| Re: Crockerton surprise well done ben glad you got your eel they are great sport but can be very frustrating with all the missed runs.1 in 4 is not a bad hook up ratio for this time of year but later on in the warmer months when they are realy having it your hook up ratio will be better.im hoping to get out thursday night if not i'll pop out just for a brew. |
