Quiet Night 8.05.10

After fishing the main pit for the past month or so I decided to get away from the noise of the geese and trains and fish the smaller pit which is connected to the main pit and is devoid of the geese

I arrived late afternoon and set up at the far end as the wind was blowing that way. I fished two rods with identical rigs, long traces with two size 8 semi barbed trebles attached to 12lb line with free running ring stems and two and half ounce of lead leads and one rod using a single hook (cant remember the size) again with a leger stem etc...

left hand rod was fished in close with the middle rod (single hook rig cast to the centre of the pit and the third rod fished a quarter of the way across all baited with small dead Rudd

The swim was a bit tight which shows when I took the pictures lol

I had a good run within an hour of fishing on the middle rod and struck into nothing (gutted). I changed the single hook trace to a tandem treble rig as the other rods and an hour later I hooked a good fish that scrapped like hell, the best fight I have had from a Zander, it weighed 9.1/4lbs

As it got dark i was getting a run every ten minutes or so but missed them all, I scaled one rod down to a single size 10 treble baited with a tiny piece of Rudd and straight away connected with the culprits, the first one was a good sized Eel that came off when I was deciding whether to net it or not, smaller ones then followed

I hook and land a smaller Zander of 7lb during the night again on the distant rod and missed three more runs in the morning, the Zander dropping the baits before I got to the rods

sorry about the picture quality

I am going to give the smaller pit another go this Friday and try a different tactic to get away from the Eels and hopefully enjoy the peace and quiet away from the geese

If anyone can recommend a rig that will reduce the attention from the Eels PLEASE let me know

Darrell
