| An afternoon teaching: An afternoon teaching: After fishing Friday and Simon N having a go on my pole, He decided that he would like to get one. After shopping around, Simon picked up a 12.5mtr Preston pole. He popped round to my place on Saturday where we commenced to set up the top sets with bushes and elastic. Simon was keen to give the pole ago, so we arranged to meet up at Crockerton on Sunday at around 1pm. Well Sunday arrived and the morning just brought rain. I rang Simon to make certain he was still going, yep he was still going and by the sounds off it he was really looking forward to going. So at 12.50pm I headed to the lake. I just took my box and a few items to make life a little easier for Simon. On arriving at the lake I found both Cindy and Simon ready and willing to go. So we headed off to pegs 14 and 15, Simon set himself up in peg 14 and Cindy popped into 15. As Simon set his station up, I gave Cindy a hand to set her depth up for the float rod she was using. Once Simon was set-up on the pole we sorted his rig out and I showed how to plum the depth and get the pole rig in the right area. Once Simon was ready he started fishing, his main line of attack was meat but he started on maggot which helped him catch a few small perch. After a while he went onto the meat and started to catch slightly bigger fish. ![]() After an hour or so, Simon hooked into his first elastic stretcher, a quality skimmer of around 1lb ![]() As the day progressed Simon had a few of these sized fish. He stated to catch some quality hybrids as well. ![]() Cindy in Peg 15 was struggling and even though I sat behind her for a while the bites were just not coming. With peg 13 being available we headed off to try there. Once Cindy was settled, I re-adjusted the depth of her float so she was fishing the deck. However, Cindy was struggling a little with her casting, so with a little bit of coaching we sorted her casting out and was casting at least double her normal distance. It wasn’t long before Cindy had her first fish in peg 13. ![]() Cindy in her peg ![]() Cindy’s best fish of the day ![]() Sitting in peg 12 was a new member of the club and he was doing very well on the pole, so I thought I would have a chat with him to see how he was enjoying the fishing, on meeting him he mentioned the forum, at that point I knew he was a member of the forum and it was nice to meet Montygti, he was doing really well catching a good selection of fish. ![]() It was 6pm when we knocked it on the head, Simons last fish of the day was a Bream of around 2 ½ lb, but on taking the photo the fish jumped out of Simon’s hands straight back into the lake, so photo taken, but it was a nice fish to finish the day of. I think Simon enjoyed himself and hopefully he will enjoy the pole from now-on. I was glad to help both Cindy and Simon, it made the whole day worth going knowing that they both had learnt new skills. __________________ Born to fish made to work |
