| Belated catch report I met Simon N a few days ago, or was it last week, at Berkley, to have a look at an old rod of his, which turned out to be a lovely spanish reed tench rod, with a nice cane tip. Some re-whipping is needed, and it will make a lovely rod. Simon had a go with my fly rod, I was using the super bonio for the carp, it took a few moments to get the fish up and feeding on the top, but they did and fed well. Simon appears to have been hooked. Here's a few snaps. ![]() ![]() Sadly the pic I thought I'd taken of Simon with his fish did not come through when i tried to down load. A couple of evenings later, I was at Crockerton, enjoying the warm evenings, I wandered around the lake to no 12, when I saw our club chairman Banana Steve in no 13. I set up one of my cane beauties, the Avon Queen and a 'pin, a quill set up and a float ledger with meat was the attack. I managed a steady stream of missed bites, which turned out to be from small perch, about 4 inches long. Last cast came and went, so I had several more, and finally I connected with my first tench of the season. Steev was on hand to snap away. I've played with the colours to entertain those who find my cane approach somewhat comical... and I'm happy to send my self up.I returned a day or so later, on weds, but this time I was armed with carbon, as I was expecting a young lad and his mother to come down for a lesson, sadly they did not show, thankfuylly the car park is so close I did not have to lug too much kit back for them Anyway, I set up in no 7, with my favourite float ledger, I had my usual lump of meat on the hook First cast and I hooked this lovely carp. ![]() Not huge, JP who was down at the lake, sacrificing spinners to the God Izaak. On the far side, this wonderful fish came out, one day I'll get anothe rof that size, hopefully on cane and pin, but on anything, other than the 'wand i hope. ![]() I also landed a brace of tench, either side of 2.8.0 I guess, I did not bother to weith them, but like all crockerton tench, then seem to be turbo powered. __________________ Ignore the margins at your peril Last edited by fullcreel; 04-30-2010 at 09:07 PM. | Re: Belated catch report Nice report and pics. For a minute there I thought it was a pic from "A Passion for Angling". Many years ago as a young teenager, who was mad on fly fishing for wild brownies where I lived in Scotland, my parents bought me a HARDY split cane fly rod. I didnt realise at the time how much they must have scrimped and saved to get me that rod, but it was money well spent, as it was used nearly every day during the trout season for the next couple of years. Dont know what happened to the rod, as I joined the Navy, parents moved, and I never really got back to fly fishing again..... |
