A Friday Afternoon off to go fishing

On Thursday I checked the weather forecast for Friday, and found that it was to be clear blue skies and around 14oc and could I get the afternoon off , that was the question and if so where was I going to go?

Well getting the Afternoon off was not a problem as being the Office Manager I delegated the workload down to one of my staff (I know I’m evil, but hey I had a chance to go fishing )
So where to go? I decided that I would try Crockerton again but this time I would fish for the silver fish and maybe this time I would have a better day than last time I went to Crockerton.

So Thursday evening I prepared my bait for Friday; good old “Bacon Grill” I chopped up two tins into small 3-4mm cubes and bagged them up to keep the meat fresh for Friday. I would pick up my Maggots on Friday before I went.

“Bag of cubed Bacon Grill”

Well Friday came and 12:00 midday arrived and I was on my way to the Tackle shop for my maggot and by 14:00 I was at Crockerton and all setup for a day’s fishing on the pole.

Clear Blue Skies “Perfect”

I had set up my pole to fish out at 8mtrs which gave me a depth of 6ft. The next part was my feeding plan, in the past I have fed a little too heavy to start with and this can put the fish off the feed. So this time round I fed two small cups full of meat and maggot. I then left this for 5 minutes whilst I sorted my station out.

Once I was ready, I started on maggot, it took a couple of minutes for the bite which produced a small skimmer of around 6ozs and on the Blue Hydro Elastic the fight was just right. This is the first season I have used the Blue Hydro, with the white being a little harsh for the smaller fish the Blue was perfect. As the afternoon progressed, both the Skimmers and Roach started to go on the feed. I managed to get both types of fish to feed on the meat and as you can see by the picture the pieces of meat weren’t that big.

When I arrived I noticed two anglers on the far bank, and to be honest I wasn’t sure who they were, but I had an inkling that it was SimonN and his Partner, so a quick wonder round to the other side to find Simon and Cindy enjoying the Sun and catching a few fish.

After have a chat about different items about the club, I returned back to my swim to catch some more fish. On my return the temperature started to drop and as my peg fell into the shade I started to notice the change. However at this point the fishing remained good with a bite every put in.

I am not saying that I caught a fish every put in but I was getting the bites.

As the evening started to draw in both the Roach and Skimmers went off the feed, and instead of a bite all most every put in I had to wait for the bites to develop. However in doing this did produce a cracking Bream (I Know Fullcreel there is no such thing as a Cracking Bream) and really nice Roach of 12+ozs

By 19:00 I was getting cold and I decided that enough was enough so it was time to pack up and with a good bag for an early spring afternoon I was well chuffed

Around 10lb of Roach and Skimmers
