| Highampton Devon 10-4-10 Sunny Days Excellent weather yesterday and day really warmed up. Up at 6am with car packed and took my two boys 12 and 8 to Highampton Lakes for the day. I fished my two carp rods with Pop Ups over small PVA bags of 4mm pellet tight to the island. Had a few runs and biggest carp for me was 9.5lb. Have had fish to 13lb from this lake and still waiting to see one of his 20lbers. My homemade boilies and pop ups seem to be working fine. Fishmeal base mix I had made up to a custom mix and delivered in 25kg sack. Pop ups made using 50% cork powder and same as the boilies. Boys fished 6mm Swimstrim pellets soaked night before as hook baits over my usual 4mm Skretting pellets soaked with some csl (dont really like high oil pellets). Action all day on the waggler fished at 4m. They put togever a catch of around 70lb of skimmers, tench and small carp. Skimmers all around 1lb to 1.5lb. All home with a slight sun burn and rosy cheeks. Boys seeing floats and bites in their sleep and dreams! One of the carp caught yesterday in photo with youngest holding it. He loves to get the unhooking mat wet and see to the safe return of the fish. Teaching him early that its all about fish care. Nice venue and enjoyable fishing. Happy days of Spring are here.       |

If you try Highampton give me a shout and may be able to meet up. Floaters produce nearly all year round and well worth a try right in the reeds. Highhampton seems a underfished place and I dont know why as it is a cracker. Be aware that on Sundays the Bude Men (when the canal is closed) usually have a mini match there.  |
