| Roswell Hi All 20Th March I took my little boy out for a few hours on Roswell pit on Saturday morning; it was windy, rain etc...after three or four hours without any luck fishing the deeper end of the pits I was dozing when the yacht club to launched their safety boat for testing after a service, trouble was I was set up on the slip way/Launch, after moving my shelter and all my tackle they offered to take my son and me for a spin around the pit, what an eye opener, Cormorants and Grebes where down the far end in the shallower waters feeding on the small fish, on our return to my swim I decided to give the shallow end a go for a few hours, my 10 year old son said, I thought we were fishing all night, music to my ears even though I did not bring enough food and water for both of us for a night out,(I was starving by the time we got home) Anyway after a bit of a trek and finally setting up two hours later the runs came thick and fast right through the night, after over thirty runs all I managed to hook was one Zander of 7.5lb and two pike under 10lb, What a frustrating night, I have been warned in the past that if the small Zander are about be prepared for a loads of missed bites, this I think is what happened, I did try smaller baits but I was not prepared to go down to tiny hooks and catch 1lb Zeds all night Friday 26Th March I arrived late morning (on my own) and walked the pits to decide where to fish and settled on this swim I had three Zeds to 8.5lb during daylight and two small Pike, losing one Zander after a decent fight I had 2 more small Zeds during the night and lost one Again I had numerous dropped runs which is getting really frustrating now Next time out I will also try float fishing dead/lives on one rod and if I can get bites close in I will try free lining a dead bait, hopefully all the above will increase the amount of hits Sorry there are no pictures of the Zander but the swim was very tight and with access being down a slope with wet clay soil I wasn't prepare put the Zander at risk for a picture Darrell |
