| Fishing from land or on a boat? Hi Everyone Please share your experiences, with fishing from a boat as against fishing from land. Some people prefer, fishing from land while some prefer fishing from a boat in a river or at sea! I have tried both and prefer fishing from land; it makes me feel much safer. |

| Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? Without a doubt I prefer fishing from a boat. Even better, a boat that is out of sight of land. I suppose if I was totally honest I'd have to say it's the separation from every day things is what I go for. The fishing is the means to that end. It also helps justify the not inconsiderable cost if I can go home with food for the family. That being said, I have to say I'm really enjoying fly fishing from the bank right now. That's probably more to do with learning a new and challenging skill. Since joining this forum I have had a brief introduction to a part of the sport of angling I had never really experienced before. The social side, either on the bank or on a boat. It's an enjoyable new dimension. Thankfully we are all different and no-one can say his or her branch is better than someone elses. There is only different. I like different __________________ I am in shape. ROUND is a shape! |

| Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? Hi all, James, I prefer fishing from a boat. At least once a month I try to fish from a boat, the whole procedure from start to finish is something to be experienced. The initial preparation, to coming home with the goods, is as exciting now as it was when I was a youngster many years ago. I love every minute of it, even although at times I return empty handed. I admire those who fish from the beach, they are truly dedicated in doing what they do, when they do it. In all sorts of weather they don their wet suits and head for the beach, only to catch a few undersized fish that they proudly photograph and then return. Freezing cold they retire to their local hostelry, stopping off on the way for a kebab, to talk about the one that got away. On the other hand, we charter fishers, normally return with enough fish to feed the family for a couple of months, Yes! we do have to pay for the pleasure of fishing from a boat but it is well worth it. No doubt the beachcasters will argue against this, I ask them, on average, how often do you return with enough fish to feed the family. | Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? Hi Kirk, I am one of the lucky ones, I have never been sick or even felt sick on a boat. I believe it is in the mind, if you think about it before you go out you will end up in trouble. I must say I do really feel sorry for those who sre sick on a boat. (ha ha ha) I've been on a boat when a guy was shouting all day long for his two friends, "Hughey and Bill", I didn't realise until later that he was just being sick??? I try not to laugh, but most of the time I am in stiches feeling sorry for them. Regards Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Secretary of The Blandford Sea Angling Club |

| Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? I served in the Royal Navy for 11 years where I loved fishing from a boat but I would still much prefer a quiet stream or river or estate lake. where you can wander along spotting and stalking fish at your lessiure and where you can also have a leak behind a bush if you need one, instead of peeing over the side of a boat, or even have a quick snooze in the mid day sun before the evening brings the fish back on the feed. I often spend a lazy summers day fishing in the shade of an overhanging tree watching all the wildlife around me while Im catching fish. To me it's pure Heaven......... __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |

| Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? Hi All, Keith, I could make a charter trip sound just as good as your "Lazy summers day fishing in the shade of an overhanging tree watching all the wildlife around me" what about the bit you have missed out? "While the mosquitos eat me alive"? We can all make our fishing trips sound great whither on land or out at sea. The important side to it all is that no matter where we fish we enjoy ourselves. | Re: Fishing from land or on a boat? I enjoy just being out on the water when boat angling its nice, especially in the summer when the feather chucking chavs are in action on the harbours/rocks. Drew,i can usually bring home plenty of shore caught fish for the family table but boat angling usually does give more species, some of which i would struggle to catch from the shore. ![]() |
