| A Hard Day but points none the same It has been a year since my Car Accident whilst going fishing. So this weekend was always going to feel a little bit strange. With everyone having plans for the weekend I decided that I would give Crockerton ago. The day started off with me waking up late at 7:45. It was a mad rush to get dressed and take my medication and I was finally out of the door by 8:10am. Nipped into the local Tesco Express to pick up some lunch only to find that they had no pre-made sandwiches, the next option was 2 bags of crisps and a bottle of diet coke. It’s only five minutes from my house to the lake, but today was going to be one of those days, and I got stuck behind tractor that seemed to be going slower than normal. I finally arrived at the lake at 8:30. There was only one person there when I arrived and he was in peg 1 and fishing for the Carp. As I entered into the grounds I noticed that someone had dumped a winter skin for a Bivvy. It’s bad enough that people leave rubbish, but to dump something like that just makes me boil. Any way back to the report, The Lake looked really nice and the far bank looked like the best option, a bit of peace and quiet and somewhere to fish the pole. I choose peg 15 and settled in. ![]() ![]() The plan was to fish at 9mtrs on the deck. I choose a 1.25 gram float and on pluming the depth I found that I had 3and ½ metres of depth at 8 metres and at 9mtrs it just disappeared. So it was to be 8mtrs then. I started of one maggot well truth be known all I had was maggot. I put out two bait droppers full of maggots on the deck, left it for five minutes and then went over the bait. No bites came but I kept to my plan feeding every 10 to 15 minutes with two large bait droppers of maggots. An hour passed and no bites, then two hours still no bites. At this point another angler turned up and decided to fish the next peg. He also was here for the Carp, but he was fishing for them with bread just below the surface. He then proceeded to bombard the swim with bread and smacking the water with his float which in turn made a bit of noise. At this point I went on to the feeder. With the bombardment and noise I knew that the fish wouldn’t be at pole range, so a cast to the centre of the lake was in order. After an hour of feeding the swim by casting out every 240 seconds I had my first bite, mind you I did have to fine right down to a size 22 fine wire hook with a 12oz hook length. Because I was using my finest tip on the feeder rod I saw the bite, as I struck I felt the thump of a Bream. Taking my time because of the fine set-up I managed to land a bream of around 1.5lb mark. The angler next continued his bombardment and said “ Hard today isn’t it” I smiled to myself! As the day wore on I had one more bite another Bream this one a lot better and one I could use for the species hunt. (1.5 points thank you very much.) ![]() I called it a day at 14:30. The day had been hard and I had many things go wrong, nearly lost sections on my pole, snapped two pole floats and to top of the day I broke the bank stick connector on my keepnet as I was packing up. I think that maybe I should have given this weekend a miss and left it till next weekend. I am going to look at 4 lakes next Saturday for the Club, I am looking forward to that. __________________ Born to fish made to work |
