Hurlston Hall Saturday 27th Feb

This is the only days fishing ive managed this year so far, ive taken it from my site so where it says InsideLiverpool thats just basically me an my mate so hopefuly it wont confuse anyone

On Saturday 27th Feb the InsideLiverpool team ventured to Hurlston Hall for a days fishing trip, Hurlston Hall is a caravan park which has a golf course and a lake to fish located in Scarisbrick. The lake offers a variety of fish depending how you like to fish yourself. Myself i like to carp fish, so on Saturday that was the target fish.

The plan was to arrive at 8am, which is the current lake opening time, sign in at the golf course and then fish through to closing time which was 5pm, the hours will increase once the warmer months arrive an the days get longer.

When we got there we picked out pegs and got set up, with mainly fishing for carp i tend to use a 3 rod set up.

For bait we started on the new dynamite range of boilies, the peach and mango with mapplecream favour boilies. Am a big fan of the dynamite range and rate there marine halibut boilies as probably my faveorite boilie to use while fishing, but am not one to stay with the same methods I like to see what different baits work and with having fished Hurlston alot over the last 10 years i really thought the new dynamite boilies would be a hit even in the cold conditions.

It was a quiet morning with very little fish coming out of the lake and no carp in sight just the odd tench here and there, the first bit of excitment the InsideLiverpool team got was when Dave's chair broke.

In all the years I have fished Hurlston i have found it normally to be alive in the morning, die off in the afternoon then as it starts to get dark the fish start to bite. So after an morning session with nothing as much as a bleep on the alarms the afternoon was looking great.

To try and get a bite and the first fish of the new year for me i changed the baits I was using, all the rods where set up on simple running rigs with one rod having 10mm mainline boilie on, one having the mango and peach and one with the old trusted marine halibut by dynamite.

It turned out to be the 10mm mainline bait that got the first and only fish of the day, which turned out to be a tench of a few lb's.

So all in all not the most productive days fishing i've ever had at Hurlston but i would rather go fishing and catch nothing than be bored just round the house so it's well worth the visit and in Hurlston you have a fishery thats not the easiest to fish if your after bag loads of fish but a fishery that has its fair share of cracking fish and i will be going back again.
