| Kids are bored, better take them for a nature ramble by the canal then ;) Yep. been to my local tackle dealer to pick his brains about pike fishing (mainly how to get the hooks out really) and he took the time to explain in detail. This is why I still try to support my local tackle dealer when I can, OK it costs a few more quid but once they are gone they are gone. Somebody in a an indian tackle warehouse call centre will not even know what a pike is. If you don't believe me trying getting sense out of cable companies these days. Back to the chat, so I am now armed with short forceps, very long forceps, cross cutting pliers , long nose pliers a big net and an unhooking mat and a box full of lures. I'll try lures first and see how it goes. A lot of my bass plugging stuff seems exactly the same anyway. Will post any piccys , results and safely returned pike piccys later. | Re: Kids are bored, better take them for a nature ramble by the canal then ;) Well the piccys were taken by madam shaky hands s othey were all binned. Had a walk up and down the Staffs Worcester with a floating ABU tormentor, then a sinking one (caught a shopping trolley and lost it). The smaller floating plug , caught a tree and lost that one. Then even tried a mepps, caught and landed a huge branch. Next time I will be using dead or live baits as I quickly got the feeling that not much was moving. The water just looked a little too cold Had a quick wander down the Stour and this is looking like it's getting better. Might have to give that a go in the next few remaining days. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Kids are bored, better take them for a nature ramble by the canal then ;) its a shame that a lot fo retail outlets suffer and cant compete with the obvious e bay etc and the same can be said for hobbies like koi carp keeeping the local dealers are sadly getting squashed out of the market and one day when the koi keeper experiences problems there will be no one to turn to for advice..sad but very true i used to travel over a hundred miles to durham to my trusted koi dealer who i put faith into to run through the correct quarantine procedures he was also an ex fisheries guy so his experience was second to non and he taught me a lot........ sadly he passed away unexpectedly and i have yet to scource another trusted dealer out...but i know where you are coming from when you say you would sooner pay an extra few pounds for the reliability of a good dealer........ probably i am a bit hypocritical as i use e bay a lot and everybody likes a bargain and competition can be healthy too |

| Re: Kids are bored, better take them for a nature ramble by the canal then ;) I think we all want a bargain now and then. He was telling me what really p's him off is when people try out the rods or poles then buy on ebay. Even worse when they have the cheek to ask him to process the warranty claim when they break it. I think the tackle dealers will always struggle on price and I'd be hyprocrital saying I would always buy from my local tackle dealer as I want a bargain too. If he's WAY more expensive then I would probably tun to ebay or another supplier. Like with fishing chemical lights. Aldi did a special on them and I got 60 for £3. Well I got 120 actually. Exactly the same ones (I think he bout a few there too), 50p each. What I'm saying is where you can if it's just the bread and butter stuff then go local. And don't take the micky if you bought it on ebay but want him to sort your broken rod out , unless he's getting paid for it of course. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Kids are bored, better take them for a nature ramble by the canal then ;) my koi dealer used to get annoyed when he was approached by a member of the public who had bought fish from a neighbouring outlet which had subsequently developed problems with the fish the supplier did not prove to be helpful usually they had kept the fish and sold in bad condition the stress of transportation brought out secondary problems which they were not prepared to rectify ..my dealer used to sort the fish out for them simply because of the love of fish.......i guess what i am saying is without the "honest" dealer in any hobby or sport sucessfully enjoying either is more difficult jools |
