A day at Wadmill - Twiddler goes for the Pike

Earlier in the week Claudia contacted me to ask me if I fancied going fishing, my question was “Where do you fancy going?” Claudia’s response was “Wadmill, I want a Pike!”
Well the venue was set the time to meet was set at 8am Saturday morning.

How was I going to approach the day, well I made my mind up and decided to fish the same as I did at Crockerton with the Barbel rods for the Carp and I also made my mind up to fish the float for a few silver fish, hopefully catch a few points.
Claudia told me that she was going to have one rod out for the Carp and one for the Pike and maybe she might fish the feeder for the silver fish.

Well on arrival the day seemed quite mild and the sun even tried to make an appearance, but by the time we had set up the wind had picked up and the temperature dropped and day became quite raw.

With three rods set up one on the float and the other two aiming for the Carp, I started on the KD rig with Scopex Boilies and the other with a maggot clip. Both were attached with PVA bags one with maggot and the other with crushed Boilies. Right from the off both Claudia and were getting indications of fish by knocking into the line. I even had a few false runs and it did start to get a little frustrating.
After an hour or so I decided to fish the float, so plumed the depth to find that at 20ft out it was 10ft deep and any further out the bottom went deeper.

After 10 minutes of feeding the swim with maggots I had my first fish, a small roach of around 3ozs, and then a spate of them over the next hour. The bait I had was not the best but sufficed for the days fishing.
3oz Roach

As the day wore on and the Carp set-ups kept giving me false bites I plodded on with the float. Even Claudia was getting fed up with the knocks and false runs. She even came over see me to change her luck.

As the morning moved into the afternoon I hooked into a better fish on the float, a nice Perch of around 10ozs which put a smile on my face.

It was just after I had returned the Perch when Claudia called for help as she had struck into a pike, but by the time I had got to her she had lost the fish, Gutted!!

The rest of the day went past with no more runs on the specimen rods. However, I did have a Silver Bream, which I was very grateful for as this had brought my points up for the day to 4.5
4oz Silver Bream

It was shame that Claudia lost the pike, but there is always next time. We finish at 5pm and with the day getting colder, but as we left 3 guys turned up to fish the night. Better them than me at this time of year.

UNlucky on the pike, have to remember to catch a silver bream, just one that is, like its bronze coloured ones.

Good report and haul of points there Steve. You did tell Twidds that 8lb mono straight through isn't ideal for Pike didn't you?

Didn't you????
