New rods

last Autumn, I restarted fishing after a 20+ year gap. I have been fishing in a local pond (Mathern, nr Chepstow) catch quite a lot of smallish carp (6-8lbs) on my 1970s fibre glass match rods. Great fun on light gear!

My old "Sundridge Black Match" rod is getting a bit knackered and I quite fancy something new. I guess the new stuff of carbon fibre (or whatever!) will be much lighter....after a general 12 match/float sort of thing!

I don't want to spend too much - any suggestions?

ps My Mitchell 300 reels (circa 1975 are still going great!)

Re: New rods

Preston do a good line of match rods and so do maver, I would avoid anything from Dragon Carp. TF gear not bad, worth looking on evil bay for match rods. Hope this helps

Re: New rods

Personally I don't think you can beat Shakespeare rods for value.

Re: New rods

If poss visit a tackle shop and hold the rod, with a reel for a bit, a good tackle shop should let you do this. Also what size of fish are you planning to catch? Might be an idea to go for one of the 'power' type match rods, which will give you more control over the fish, very useful in snaggy swims.
