| Searwater the Blank 28th of December 2009 1st Choice venue – Todber Manor – Wadmill Lake. Over the last couple of days the weather has been cold, there was even a rumor of snow in the country. I decided that I would chance my arm and try Todber Manor out. Being a total expert in weather I knew that the lakes wouldn’t be frozen, Both Claudia and I decided to meet there at 8am on the 28th. I was so confident that the lakes would fish well. 8am arrived and the owners opened up the tackle shop. We wondered into the shop, I asked for tickets for Wadmill, The owners face was one of disbelievement, “uhh the lakes are all Frozen” “No you jest” I replied. At that point Claudia sacked me as the official weather forecaster. Seriously the owners did give us the option to check the lake ourselves and doing so we saw a member of owner’s staff trying to break up the Ice in a boat. We discussed about waiting for the ice to be broken and then fishing or trying Warminster and hoping either Crockerton or Shearwater were fishable. We decided on Warminster as the next option. 2nd Choice Venue – Crockerton Result – Frozen 3rd Choice – Shearwater Result Half Frozen but fishable. So on arrival at Shearwater the lake was fairly full with anglers everywhere; I think every Tom, Dick and Harry had decided to head to the lake. We found a peg at the bottom end of the lake and knowing that this part of the lake was shallower my hopes were not too high, but we were out fishing. We both set up for the carp and started on boilies, I was using Todber Red Factor and Claudia was using up some off her Boilies. The 1st 2 hours went past nicely with sun warming up the lake and area. ![]() Even to the point of Claudia catching a few Rays. The Ice started to recede and even had a few line bites, my hopes started to rise. ![]() Me waiting for that run ( That never happened) Lunch time came and went and even Fullcreel joined us for a while and he brought supplies with Fire Bangers Claudia’s favorite sausage. ![]() ![]() We even had a visitor from the local red breast. Looking for a bit of lunch, for which I obliged with a few maggots. ![]() By 4pm the ice started to creep towards us and the light started to fade and we called it a day. ![]() I really enjoyed myself and even won the competition which I will leave for Claudia to explain. __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: Searwater the Blank Oh yeah the competition....well, in therory I won it. as I got the led back lol Steve is always helpful to improve my casting techniques so when I told him that I could easily hit the ice he smerked in disbelieve. So in came one rod, took the hook length off (didn't fancy to get tangles up) and I wollapped it out hitting the ice with nooooo problem AND manged to retrieve it.Steve decided to have a go too with my rod.....BIG MISTAKE ....a swift cast and he hit the aprox same distance as me...however....the led hit the ice so hard that the ice broke and Steve couldn't get the led back out....only option left was snapping the line and loosing the led. He felt pretty guilty about it and I played on it a wee bit to wind him up but wasn't really mad, thought it was quite amusing......So you guys decide...who won the comp...we both cast aprox the same distance but I managed to retrieve the led!!!! __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |
