Another trip to the severn.

Just a quick report as I didn't have the camera this time.

Took the girls to fish Knowle Sands . New stretch to me. Apart from the fact that it appeared that nothing wanted to have a go at the maggot them pair were alternately drowning in between casting straight in to a tree and playing Olympic whip tangling it was a reasonable enough couple of hours.

To cut a long story short , I went and caught another one of them there barbel things. About 5 pounds at a guess but when I hooked the thing I thought it was going to go bigger. Figured out what I was doing wrong with the time bomb method, ie not using it though I thought I was.

Then I hooked another but bumped it straight off by striking with the freespool still engaged Doh!

Third good bite and bl@@dy hell I thought I'd hooked a passing goods train.

I can see why people rant and rave about barbel.

This WAS a big fish and took line like no ones business in three good blasts.

I had fined down after a few blank (a few , sounds better thana a few thousand) trips so was using 8 lb main and 6 hook length. Normally I wouldn't go so fine but this looked to be a relatively snag free swim and the flow wasn't too bad.

I was getting the better of it when someone who will remain nameless piped up with "dad are you going to take hours to lands this fish". Kiss of death , the fish lunged , got to the bottom and was gone. No one should allow their offspring to hear them words , expecially not followed by the phrase "You NEVER jinx someone by saying that.

Anyway I'm still happy but it sounds like world war three is breaking out in the bath room so I'd better go and see if she who nearly went swimming has drowned her younger sister yet.
