First Pike for Donkey's years Well I think its about 11 years. I often play about with a spinner, just incase a pike is prepared to play, but they have not. This playing is at the end of a session somewhere. I did some 'proper' spinning sessons at the end of last season on the Brue, my fishing partner JP had never caught a pike before, earlier this year he got his first from the Brue. We had a session in the week, which sadly was a blank for both of us, but there was a fantastic sunset. ![]() We went back to the Brus on sunday afternoon. We decided on the way down to try a different section. The Brue is a river which has been played with by man over centuaries, so it does not have many of the characteristics of 'normal' rivers, there are drains which flow in, which resemble an old canal, still there is some mgood fishing to be had. We chose to go to the lower end of the GMAA water, and walked up stream to a confluence, which looked like the junction between two canals. On the way to the confluence, we did spot a small rapid, a natural stone weir, and more pleasingly, some very nice chub in the shallow water, might have to return with fly rods as the chub were about 4lb. And its Daddy time! Heres the confluence. ![]() On my fourth or fifth cast, my spinner landed a few inches from the weeds on the far bank, and the water exploded as a furious jack pike put up on hell of a scrap. Not a big beast, but good fun and it was kind enough to tail walk. ![]() No other played ball, so we spun our way downstream, catching a few perch on our way. Later in the day JP picked up a jack as well, so honours even we went to the pub. The river where the chub were playing games. ![]()

Re: First Pike for Donkey's years The Brue looks an interesting river. I like the sunset shot. I've almost forgotten how nice it is to catch Pike on a lure. A nice report. ![]() __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: First Pike for Donkey's years I'm looking forward to playing about there next summer with a fly rod. I have been lucky to have been able to teach JP how to unhook pike with small fish to start with. I have a simple philosophy to unhooking them, treat them like a woman and get them on their backs as soon as possible.
