| Blanked again but got some OK piccys. This is the BAA Eardington Creek section. This is a beatiful bit of water and I can see that there are going to be plenty of fish round here when the levels rise. These pictures show the first part of the water you see when you walk down from the car park and cross the stream bridge. Drop straight down on to the river bed with the stream to your left and there is a huge pool with the main Severn flow going left to right but an enormous eddy sends the flow back on the near side bank to some trees and bridgnorth anglers water . The water is very shallow here and I managed to wade a good thirty feed out onto limestone looking ledges and gravel. Lots of weed about too. looking downstream the flow speeds over the shallows and I could see a narrowing of the river downstream. Walking downstream I saw that there was a hell of a lot of streamer weed in the river and that there were also some big boulders (looks hopeful). The first real pool I saw the flow went across at about a 20 degree angle and the river bed dropped in to a pool with a bit of a back eddy towards the near bank. I tackled up two rods . The avon rod went in this side of the edge of the flow with a bomb to check the bottom. Gravel and looking clear with the odd snag. The second is what I am now calling my "silly" rod. This went on to a limestone ledge with a huge bit of tandoori luncheon meat that I had fried in hemp oil and left in the fridge with garlic for a week, it stank but I nearly succumb and eat it it really smelt good. This allows the flavour to really get in and toughens the skin up too. The avon rod got the Matt Hayes time bomb treatment and out it went and stayed there for an hour. OK so it was more that an hour and nowt much happened. So I started imagening the Matt hayes and Mick Brown great rod race episode I saw and realised I haven't been fishing his method at all. numpty! So to put things right I reeled in and WAHAY! The line went solid, OH BUGGA! It was a massive snag and it wasn't long before I had to pull for a break. I hate leaving gear in the river with bait on it. Just hope the bait came off. Retackled and put a bomb on to recheck the swim. Straight in to the snag again. Ahhh!! Snap. Retackled again and aimed right about a foot. Well I'll be , there was a tiny gap about two feet across between what I reckon was a tree or a massive boulder. Snag = fish thinks I so in she goes in the hole. No action on the "stupid" rod so it was another hour or two of listening to the river and the odd canoest (and some of them were bloody odd). Nowt, so I thought I'm moving ut before I do I am getting up the bank with the poloroids and checking that bait I threw near Le Rod Stupide. Swarming with minnows and little fish but nowt of any size. But it was atrrcating fish , aha! Packed up and after a look around plus and attempt to get myself drowned in a slimy mud hole I went back up to the top of the venue by the creek and cast a cheeky line upstream in to Bridgnorth territory. yes I know I know but I was still STOOD in the BAA bit and it's not lke I was going to catch owt was it. And I didn't. Still a pack more things I need to remember and a beautiful stretch that I am sure will improve with some water in it. I'm going to give it another crack soon too, maybe sticking in really shallow water to see what happens. Anyway, hopefully the piccys will follow below. This is loking down from the stream at the top of the venue (didn't take one of the stream, silly really as it was full of snags and come the rains I might not get a better chance. This is what happens when you wade downstream from piccy 1 and take a picture upstream. The river is swinging round from top right, to middle left the back bottom right, can't quite see stream. The music of the river at this point is amazing. This is the swim I choose. looking upstream again there is a pool above the swim then the water rushes over some rocks and weeds heading across river where a deeper drop off is nearest me and a shallower run in themiddle to a third across. Water was VERY clear. And now looking in to the swim itself. Pool, run , far side. Lovely! Ah well it's hard to be down when you listen to the amazing sound of our longest river as she flows past. Next time. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Blanked again but got some OK piccys. Looks very Inviting. Especially if theres a couple of slightly deeper holes under those far bank (or near bank) bushes to fish during the day, or some deeper runs between the streamer weed. It looks a great stretch to explore and trundle a bait. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now) |
