Swim clearing report The 15th of August saw the members of the Warminster Angling Club, heading off to the newly required stretch of the River Avon to clear some swims with strimmer’s, well I say members, all 4 of us, and it so happens forum members as well. Fullcreel, Greenheart, Benlee and myself. Ian, Ben and myself arrived at 11:30 with the anticipation that there would be a few members to help out, well I was gob smacked not a single soul. Ohh well it looked like I might have to get sweaty. Armed with a strimmer each we proceeded to an appointed area and started to clear the banks. Ben clearing out a Swim: ![]() A couple of cleared swims: ![]() ![]() ![]() By 15:30 Matt had arrived, but by this time the rest of us were sha**ed. However, with some work to complete in an area known as the Jungle, we continued. Armed with saws and strimmers we cut our way through to create more swims. Matt and Ian sawing their way through the undergrowth and tree stumps: ![]() Matt up a tree to remove a pesky branch: ![]() By 5pm we all had enough and it was off to the pub. I would like to say a huge thanks to Ian and Ben for helping out, Both Matt and I needed to be there but Ian and Ben didn’t and without their help we would have never would of managed to clear as much as we did. __________________ Born to fish made to work

Re: Swim clearing report The first pic makes me wonder if I'm getting a bit thin on top!! The second I'd like to point out that my shirt was snaged on the rough bark of the willow, I'm not that porky!!! Seriously, its an pld story as far as I'm concerned, les than 5% of a clubs membership doing all the work, but it does make our fishing more rewarding. I think its a bit like modern fisheries and fishing, as in batteries powered troolies, parking by your swim. When I began in the old days, we carried everything, often for more than a mile.

Re: Swim clearing report well done guys, certainly looks like you deserved the pub afterwards. shame nore members couldn't make the effort to help, especially as no doubt, they'll make the effort to fish. reminds me of when i had my trusty old landrover & member of the southdowns landrover club, we had letters of approval from east sussex county council to maintain the green lanes (for the use of green laners, horse riders & ramblers), we were even donated chainsaws & strimmers, as well as using our own, always the same club members turning out to maintain a lane, yet sure enough, the next time we drove the lanes, other members would join in. worst thing was the abuse we got from the few hardcore ramblers moaning that we were cutting back the vegitation & the landrovers being in the way, i'm sure they'd moan just as much if the lane became impassable for them, yet gurantee they wouldn't carry out any maintenance. once again, well done guys. __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk
