 drawn to the darkside first trip 3 planned this week omg well as the sea fishing is so dire at present, I really was needing to get a bend in a rod somewhere Mrs P has taken son and daughter away for a couple of days so i am home alone til friday  , mmmmmm now what to do with myself in the afternoons  Shillingford was the answer, and after finishing work at 2 and finding the bottom ponds rammed i was at the top pond and set up by 2.30  fished 1 rod on the bottom with halibut boilies for carp or tench, other was on float rod and maggot for whatever a few balls of anniseed groundbait as well, and i had the swim fizzing infront of me the roach came steadily to the maggot, i missed 2 runs on the ledger  but managed to connect 3rd time with a 7lb mirror ,it was nice to feel a fight again fishing was slow though,with the carp just cruiseing, some guys further up were catching well off the top, but they werent playing ball for me Tj evenntually got off work and came along to say high, along with what was left of his magic bait bucket, soon the swim was alive with fish on the top and he was quickly off with my float rod to try off the top  we both played this game untill to dark to see I managed another mirror about 6lb and missed 2 more runs but was good to meet up again, and see a bend in rod Tommorrows plan , includes TJ again( as will get off work in time) blueys, halibut pellets , maggots and the canal ( can you guess what i'm after ) dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives Last edited by pingu; 08-19-2009 at 12:27 PM.     |

| Re: drawn to the darkside first trip 3 planned this week omg day two and it was the exeter canal, top section due to major weed on bottom stretch tj arrived as was setting up had 1 rod out boilie and pellet other was waiting for a live bait I caught a skimmer 2nd cast but a tad too big for hook then struggled for 2 1/2 hours to get another bite so sent pike rod out with lunp of bluey eventually as was almost too dark to see float i managed 2 small live bait roach, both had an assisted swim for a while but nothing doing a lovely evening but bottom rods not so much as a touch , and hard work on the float will be back, now then is there enough time for a pint still oh yes i believe there is  dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives |

Pingu, as a matter of interest have you ever been to the lake near Halfway House Inn. The road it's situated on is called "Higher Hawkland" Not sure what the lake is called but I had an absolute field day there last week and am going there tomorrow. Don't think it's fished much, but plenty of Rudd, Perch and Carp. |
