| 3 Days at crockerton August 09 With being of work since June the 4th and with a start date for my new Job on the 17th, I thought it would be a good idea to get a couple of days fishing in, at Crockerton. Well I arrived on Wednesday, as I arrived the skies decided they would drizzle on me. I found the peg I fancied, peg no7 and proceeded to set up my Bivvy. Well by the time, I had finished setting-up and getting ready to fish; the rain stopped leaving me soaked to the skin. Well a quick change of clothes and putting the wet ones out to dry, I was ready to start fishing. My plan of attack was to fish my Barbel rods on the deck with Strawberry boilies and to fish the float on my centre pin and my Drennan Specialist Rod for the Tench. As the day wore on, I started to catch some quality Bream and some nice Roach and a few nice Rudd. At 6pm, Matt and JP had joined me and they too were catching some nice fish. At around 7pm I caught my first Tench, a cracking fish of 4lb2ozs. ![]() As the evening progressed both Mat and JP caught Tench as well, showing that the fish were in a feeding mood. Matt with his 2lb Tench: ![]() JP with his 2lb Tench ![]() Matt and JP left me at around 9ish. However, I continued on catch yet more Bream and another fine Tench of around the 3lb mark. I hadn’t fished the Barbel rods at all during the day I spent all my time fishing the Centre pin on the float at depth and using Bacon grill again. I fished onto 11pm and called it a night, with plans to be up at dawn {Yeah Right I’d be so lucky} Rudd I caught earlier in the day: ![]() The 3lb Tench: ![]() One of the many Bream I caught: ![]() I awoke on the second day at 8am, to bright sky and warm conditions. I started the days fishing on the Lead, and decided to read my book and let the Bite alarms do all the work. Well 1pm came and the heavens had opened and rain that wasn’t forecasted came down. With my book finished and no bites of the leads, it was time to go back onto the float. I tucked myself under my brolley and continued to fish. The Heavy Rain: ![]() Well as the day wore on the rain just kept coming and I only managed a couple of small skimmers. ![]() However, I did catch a nice carp on the float, it only went 5lb but I gave a good account for itself. ![]() Matt rejoined me again, but due to the weather and not feeling to good, he only stayed for an hour, but he did manage to lose a carp but landed a Tench and the obligatory Bream. I tried to fish into darkness but the rain was getting me down and by 9pm, I was in bed heading for the land of Nod. Well yet again, I awoke late, this time it was 9:30am and yet again, it was to glorious sunshine. Well today was going to a good day and I hoped that the rain was not on the cards. I received a phone call from Ian saying that he would be joining me for evening as he was going for the Eels. I decided that I would spend the morning packing up the Bivvy and everything else I was not going to need for the rest of the day. Well by the time, I pack up my kit and started to fish, it was 1pm. I packed away the Barbel rods and stayed on the float. Nevertheless, with weather warm, the fishing was hard and the Carp spent the day cruising the lake. ![]() ![]() I even popped around to the garden centre to look at the fish in their side, they however, were looking for food, I dropped a small piece of ice cream into the water and water exploded. ![]() Well Back to the fishing, Ian arrived at 4pm and after talking to him as he set-up we decided that we would fish until late. At around 6pm and only having a few small fish, the carp disappeared from the surface, that’s when all hell broke loose, First there was the 11lb common {Ian has the photos for that one} Then a new lake PB for me a Lovely 16lb Mirror. ![]() Meanwhile JP turned up and fished, he too hooked a cracking Carp at 12lb. ![]() I had another two more carp both around 8 to 9lb in weight. The last one ran me all over the lake it took me an age to land; it even ran through Ian’s lines. After landing that fish, I was done for. I didn’t want any more carp, remember I was fishing a 1 ¼ Tc rod and a centre pin. It was fun playing the fish, but hard work just the same. I packed up the rest of my gear and sat with Ian for the Last hour and waited for Ian to catch an Eel, but I was not to be, Ian had one run but failed to connect. I had a great three days and called it a night at 23:10. I was home by 23:30. Thanks to Matt, JP and Ian for joining me it was nice to have the company. __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: 3 Days at crockerton August 09 Well doen to you Steve, and JP too. He popped by to tell all. Definately a happy bunny. The joy of crockerton, some wonderful hardfighting carp, turbo charged tench, sadly there are useless bream there. They would amke good fertiliser, thats their only redeeming feature. |
