| Foxham Report Fished the Warminster club water on the Bristol Avon at Foxham on Sunday along with Claudia (Twiddler) & Bananna Steve. Steve & Claudia set up for Pike, while I was happy to catch anything that was feeding. However I was also hopeful of catching an Eel & a Minnow which I need for the species hunt. The river looked in perfect condition, but I was a bit concerned about the cormorants that were there when we arrived. There have also been some reports of a lot of otter damaged fish being found along the Avon. I opted to fish the downstream length of the club water which is deep and fairly slow flowing. ![]() ![]() I set up a feeder rod, with groundbait feeder & alternated between maggot & worm, with a regular supply of loosefeed to try & tempt some of the Bream, Tench & Perch that this length of the river had once been famous for. After about three hours of fishing with only one bite & a sucked maggot to show for my efforts, I set up a float rod & decided to walk the banks to see if I could find any feeding fish. I stopped by to see if Claudia & Steve were having any luck. But things were very slow for them too... ![]() So I walked up to the faster water below the weir & caught one of my target species first cast.... ![]() A fine speciemen minnow & some points for the Moonrakers. I was catching a bleak or minnow every chuck, but still no decent sized fish. I then decided to walk across the fields to a small pond that we also have the fishing rights too. [IMG] [/IMG]I could see a large shoal of Rudd sunning themselves on the surface, & first cast I was into a good sized one. I missed the next bite, but got a shock when & reeled in my empty hook. A shoal of large hungry perch were attacking my float as I reeled in. I cast out another fresh maggot, which resulted in a beautifully marked perch, although not one of the larger fish that i'd seen. ![]() Next cast resulted in my hooking one of the better fish, which made a sudden lunge as I was about to land it, which snapped my hooklength. I had left my spare hooks with the rest of my tackle about half a mile away, so I gave up but the pond. But i'm already planning anothe trip there to try for the impressive stripeys that i'd seen. Getting back to my origional peg, I cast my feeder rig back out to the baited area. It was still very slow, but I did manage a couple more perch & a chub of about a pound. ![]() ![]() Just as the fish were starting to show, Steve gave me a shout to say it was time for the Pub. He had managed to hook and lose a good pike, but that was their only run of the day. As we were getting ready to leave, Forum Member JP turned up to fish. I'm not sure what he caught, but i'm sure he will post a report soon. Although the day had been hard, it was still enjoyable & was nicely rounded off with a good pub meal & a beer or three __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
