Fishing with Twiddler

Friday saw Claudia and Myself fishing at Crockerton. We arrived at 9:30, after looking at the lake, we decided that Claudia would fish Peg 13, and I would fish peg 14. Claudia had just bought a second hand pole so I helped her set up and lent her some rigs to make life easier for her. By the time, we started fishing it was 11:00, I decided to fish the feeder with ground bait, something I don’t normally do. As I have found that the groundbait can kill the swim, but this time it didn’t.

Claudia was doing really well on the pole and was enjoying herself catching some nice roach and skimmers.

I was also catching some nice fish as well, with some quality Skimmer Bream and Roach.
By the end of the day I had caught 5.1/2lb of bits and Claudia who had stopped fishing pole and went on the feeder but sadly didn’t catch on the feeder, had 3.1/2lb. She would have had a lot more if she had stayed on the pole.

My Catch

{This also includes 1.5 points for the skimmer bream}

Sunday saw Ian, Claudia and me again of to the river Avon at Foxham. Claudia and I were after Esox lucius. The day didn’t start to great for me. When we arrived I smacked my head on my car boot door, when I got to my peg and started to set up I found that one of my bite alarms wasn’t working. After faffing around for a while, I settled down to fish.
Claudia was in the peg next to me and looked a little uncomfortable. As the day progressed, the pike were not showing and I had that horrible thought that it was going to be a blank day.

Another club member came down to see how we were fishing and after a chat he went on a roving session. Ian meanwhile was fishing downstream for some minnows for the species hunt for which he found. As the day, progressed Dave the other club member popped back and asked me about the river and the section called the Jungle, so instead of explaining I took him to the section. On my return I had to go under an electric fence, yes you guessed it I got a whap from the fence and boy it did hurt. Well back to my swim and with an hour before we were to leave I had a bite. I struck, yes, I’m in, the pike shot straight towards the lily pads in front of me, then powered through them, and I panicked and hadn’t set the clutch, bang went the line and off went the pike.
Well that just about finished the day for me. The next stop was the Pub and a nice meal.

Well done both of you, it's a pity you lost the pike

Re: Fishing with Twiddler

Not much I can add to the post, I had a great weekend fishing and the new pole (which Steve found for me on a car boot sale) handled very well.

Here a few more piccis of the weekend

Foxham, Steve in the swim to the left to me

All this blanking is hard work

We saw this as we were driving to the pub, a cow in the field giving birth

And finally we met up in the pub with Steve's twin brother
