| Sunday with Our Moll' For those of you that don't know , Molly is my eldest daughter (9) and mad keen since she got here own rod, pink reel (OkumaFemme Fatale Calynn, thanks again uncle Dan) and landing net. Last time we went out she was struggling to use the net and getting used to running line. So the plan was to catch some fish then try and catch some medium sized fish (pref Tench). Mum works at the local A and E between 10:00 and 20:30 AND mother in law hasn't seen the kids so would I be so kind (you know the would you be so kind or you'll be kissing yourself next week kind of comment). So I needed to come up with a plan to allow Moll to get some fish to practise on, get some tench if possible and get the kids the in-laws for an hour or two in Telford PLUS make sure my darling wife (who is after all working) doesn't have to share the public transport system with some drunk she just kept waiting four hours (quick I know) to get their poorly thumb splinter sorted. So it was up at 5:15 , kettle on and down to the staffs worcester with maggot to just catch whatever was around. Amazingly Moll' was up and dressed AND brushed teeth and corn flakes in record time. It has obviously been raining but looked to have stopped an hour or so before we arrived. I set a pole up and got Moll' on running line so she sould practise aerobatics perch manoveuring . I was catching pretty steadily but Moll was really struggling for some reason so I have a quick float change rearranged the shotting and she caught a few perch and roach to attempt to dispatch with a net. She's getting there and I've seen some adults who aren't much better. We both had a few perch and roach. So back home at 09:30, mum to work, cook breakfast , eat and kip for an hour. Take the littlest to the in laws in Madeley (not far from Telford) and rather conveniently close to BAAs Six Lake Nordley venue. It was 15:00 though so I wasn't too optimistic about tench. This proved to be the case with no sign of tench at all (and let's be honest it's not hard to figure out why). We had a silly game of I_spy where the idea was that the answer had to be dead easy, then silly I-Spy where the answers got sillier and sillier. We weren't catching and it was great to be sat laughing together by a lake. I don't know how much longer she'll want to go fishing with dad but by the time boyfriends arrive , she'll be able to fish any of them under the table, "Maggots ,scare me? Yeah right" The laughing subsided and it was back to the serious business of not catching tench, bream or anything. ![]() "I'm bored can I have a go at catching ANYTHING dad?", so it was off with the out and out medium fish set up and , oh thingybobs, I left the canal sized gear in the house (switched between venues) so it 4lb straight though to a size 16 . Put on a slightly sensitive float and then cast it. Had a bit of fun leaving it twenty second or so, reel in two turns, watch, no bite , reel in two turns. ![]() Moll' caught a load more suicidal perch and was happy again. ![]() ![]() Packed up about 17:30 to go to the in-laws so Moll' could see the grandparents. "So what do we need to do to catch some bream and tench then dad ?" The smile on my face as I said "Well we'd best get here dead early next time" only got broader when she said "OK that would be great!". __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

| Re: Sunday with Our Moll' Some will, some won't. My youngest is OK (and seven too). She is the gudgeon queen, attention span of a maggot. Gets bored quicker than me, and that's a feat. I think it's like that old story of the young bull and the old bull watching the fiedl of cows...... __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk |
