| First Tench of the year Hi all, just been out to my favorite lake on the marshes. The sport was slow to start off but later in the morning had some good fun catching some nice Rudd, then at the end of the morning hooked into my first Tench of the year, only just under 5lb.but never the less I was very pleased as they are quite hard to catch here this late in the summer(usually catch them in the late spring). | Re: First Tench of the year Thanks Catfish, I did not realise it was a male, these do not grow as big as the female,I understand. Just happy to catch it. There are some very decent Tench in the lake,I have had them up to 10.5lb.but they have been quite elusive of late. |

| Re: First Tench of the year I've had males to over 6lb and seen examples of 7lb+. One identifier is usually the lower (pelvic) fins will have far more pronounced muscle/build than the female tench. Can't remember the ratio but if you're catching 5lb males then the venue will probably hold females several/many pounds heavier than that. Good luck. __________________ "I'm playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order" Eric Morcambe |
