I'm intending to have a session after the Barbel on our clubs new strech of the river Avon at Foxham, so I thought i'd walk the river yesterday & check out a few possible swims. I also thought i'd try to kill two birds with one stone. Team Moonraker needed a Pike for the species hunt, so I also took a spinning rod & a few plugs. The river had changed a lot since i'd last seen it in the Autumn. The water is much lower & the banks are very over grown, making fishing very difficult. There were lots of fish topping which bodes well for the future. The banks are very high along most of the length & I soon discovered that I should have brought a landing net with a longer handle. However I managed a few casts into some likely looking spots & soon had a few follows from small pike, perch & what looked like a large brown trout by the weir. The pike were very eager to take my small Rapala plug & would jump completely out of the water in the attempt. Sadly they usually missed. Eventually I found a nice looking pool that was not too weedy & I was rewarded with this pretty little Jack Pike, that took right under my feet. 1.5 points for the Moonrakers ![]() ![]() ![]() Barbel wise, I think this bit of river has a lot of potential, especially if we get a bit of rain. I think we also need to organise a weed cutting work party to open up a few more swims. I shall also have to buy a longer landing net handle as many of the banks are a sheer drop of about 8 feet. __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...

Re: River Avon Foxham Cool sounds like it could be a nice spot. If the club go over to tidy it up put my name down.

Re: River Avon Foxham A weed cutting session is on the cards, we have some work to do at Berkley Lake as well. Perhaps after weed cutting say a morning session? we should rest the river, with a session in the pub down the road, before returning to see of our labours have produced some interest from the fishes. Those of use with chest waders will go in, and those without can help haul out weed, we don't want to upset our downstream neighbors. Must have a close look at what creatures are living in the weed.

Re: River Avon Foxham I recognize that swim at the end, its where Steve and I both blanked in the early spring. Looking on google maps, you can see a sand bar reaching out across mid river, interesting.
