| Unlucky 13th? - no way The weekend was forecast to be warmer and muggier so I decided to go for an evenings Tench fishing at our clubs estate lake on Saturday, I had a small Tench of around 2lb plus a small carp of around 6lb but I had a gut feeling that I was going to catch something bigger, I had 8lb line on to a size 6 hook and was using an old favourite light 2lb TC Diawa Powermesh rod which should easily be able to handle any Tench in the lake so I rebaited with a 'Monster Crab' pellet coated in soft fishpaste, attached a small pva net with half a dozen mixed crab and Halibut pellets and recast then waited expectently. My bobbin suddenly hit the rod as the alarm screamed but when I struck I found that I had line tangled round the back of my spool so I had to frantically free the tangle before I could continue and I cursed as I thought that I must surely lose this fish; but I was thrilled to find it still on even though I had a barbless hook on. It was a 21lb 4oz Common which was my first 20 of this season. (see Picture). I will never tire of the feeling you get when you see a large Carp finally in the bottom of your landing net, It's almost as good as a large Barbel (almost  )..jpg) I couldn't hold it in my arms as since my stroke a few years ago Im a bit stiff on one side and I couldn't chance dropping it. I didn't catch the Tench I was after but I caught a nice crucian of 1.5lb just as the last light forced me to pack up, but what a lovely surprise that Carp was.
