| Big! I went down to Kilby bridge canal in Leics yesterday, to throw a dead bait out for pike and try for some big bream or perch on the quiver tip. I missed the one big drop back bite I got on the dead bait and there were no big bream showing, only a hand full of small perch and a lonesome gudgeon which all made for good sport. Anyhow, just after mid day, with the sun shining bright onto the water, a big fish surfaced right under my rod tip, to slurp something off the top- just like the carp do on my local commercial when it's warm. "Wow" I thought, "that's a good size carp for a canal, never seen one here before". It was over a foot long and around 4 lb+. Then it rolled and I noticed the huge mouth and green and black stripey sides, it was a perch, and almost as long as my fore-arm. Suffice to say, I'll be taking my spinning rod, lures and a small roach to wobble next time out there. If only it'd taken my worm!!! |
