An eveing on the fly Greenheart called me at work, with the idea of a few hours at St Algers Farm. We agreed to finalise plans later in the day, Ian called back around 3ish, and agreed to meet me at work at 5, I ha dthe bank manager comming at 4.15, so everything seemed in order, sadly Bank Manager did not arrive til 5, just as Ian arrived, so I wound up meeting Ian on the bank. The lake was very weedy, but the wind was blowing down towards the deep end, where there was less weed. I got to Ians pitch, to see a nice rainbow on the bank. I mooved aroun to the next gap in the reeds, and tied on an orange Bristol Buzzer, my fav fly at St Algers. My setting up was a bit poor, the leader was too long, so i did not do a proper cast, more it fell in the water, so I decided to shorten it, and the was a hard figting rainbow on the end, this I got in, and shortened the leader, 3rd cast, I had another, whichas I had a 2 fish limit, so I unhooked it in the water, and carried on. Things went a bit quiet, but about 20 mins later Ian had a lovely brownie, which had a silvery sheen to it. I Mooved around to Ian other side, and fished a dry fly, managing a couple more fish, one I kept, and the other, went into the bag. Sorry its not the best report, but food is cooking and I'm starved. ![]() Ian's Brownie, in my hand, prior to being cleaned for the table, underneath, our rainbows.

Re: An eveing on the fly Sorry Steve, St Algers is abit hard to fish, very weedy, bankside telegragh implied wading,I waded a bit, also weed on banks to high for easy casting, only two spots where you can safely cast, unless you happy casting only a few yards. Its alsoa case of tapping fish on the head, (officially) and I know you don't like to kill fish. That Brownie did have sea trout like 'silveryness' there is a stream in let, but its not likely to be navigable by seatrout. its abut 2inches deep at best, also the out fall is a chimney style one. Plus there are no fish ladders on the Frome, into which the lake outfall flows into. There are some very impressive weirs around Frome, which would be impossible to scale, even for a salmon, as the weirs were not made for fish.

Re: An eveing on the fly Very long shot indeed. Try the Avon, season opens next week, JP and I have both had seatrout from that river. Maybe should be in fly fishing. I guess I'm a creature of habit.
