Crockerton Three different Trips:

Some of this report is a little late.

Last week on bank holiday Monday, I decided to catch some fish after only catching two Mackerel at Abbotsbury, so I went to Crockerton and decided to fish my favorite method, Wag and Mag.
On arrival, the lake was busy, and there were a few people there who I knew as well. I choose peg 5 and as I set up the Wag,

I set my depth at 2 ½ foot and started to feed loose maggots over the float, as I fed the bites became very positive. This started to produce a good stamp of fish.
I only wanted to fish for 3hrs or so, but in that time I managed a good bag of Roach and Skimmers.

One of the Anglers I knew came and sat behind me and started going how bad the lake was fishing, mean while I was catching a fish a chuck. I looked round at him and asked are you taking the Michael, to which he replied, “Ohh come on there no carp showing, its ok for the other fish, but where are the Carp.” I couldn’t believe what he said, He had been sitting on dog biscuit all day and he hadn’t even fed any loose feed, and wonders why he not catching. He was so negative about the lake and it was almost if he expected the fish to respond with every cast. Maybe it’s me, but don’t we call it Fishing not Catching. The problem is the negative approach can put people off joining the club. Any way I will step off my soapbox.
After the 3hrs I pulled in my net and was surprised in the amount of fish I had, the scales came in at 15lb 3oz, not bad for 3hrs. Mind the lake is fishing C**P apparently.

Friday saw me back at Crockerton in Peg 7, This time I decided to fish completely different, I was there to fish all night. My first line of attack was to fish the buzzers and fish for the Tench on my Barbel Rods. Whilst getting out the reels and everything I saw my centrepin in the bag, I thought to myself it would be nice to fish the float tonight with starlight.

I set the depth at 8ft and started to fish, and to be honest I didn’t really fish the Barbel rods as I was having fun on the Float. I fished till around 1am and by that time I was knackered and decided to go to bed, I promised myself I would be up by dawn but I think it was around 8am when I woke up, so I started again on the float and fished till 11am then called it a day.
Here is some of the fishing I caught.
1lb 5oz Roach

First Tench of the Night

3lb 8oz Male Tench

3lb Female Tench

4lb Bream

2lb Tench last Tench of the session

Fishing the Centrepin

Sunday saw me return back for a couple of hours and back on the centrepin on peg 8, I only fished for a few hours and yet again caught well, with some nice Roach, all of the fishing from Friday Night and Sunday were all caught on meat.

A nice Roach on the Centrepin

View from Peg 8

All 3 trips were really enjoyable and a pleasure to fish, it was nice to catch on the centrepin, which I have not done for 20 years or so.

Re: Crockerton Three different Trips:

Nice catch I havnt fished crockerton for about 15 years. Lovely deep lake with some cracking fish. How much is a tab now and can you night fish it. I take it most of the carp are still risiding in the garden centre lake. Any information on this lake would be great.
cheers
Martin
