| The classic “Attack of the killer Geese” or 3 days at Crockerton After the grief at work and the bulls**t, I managed to swing a week off work, so I rang Twiddler AKA Trouble AKA Claudia to see if she fancied joining me at Crockerton for 3 days, well as I hoped Claudia agreed. I informed her that I might not be there until late Tuesday as I had hospital appointment but I would be there as soon as I could. Well Tuesday the 12th of May soon arrived and as soon as I was out of the hospital, I rang Claudia, and half expecting her to already be there, she said that she was just getting ready and will be there in the afternoon. The forecast for the day was heavy rain and strong winds, the only strong wind was at night and that was coming from someone’s bivvy ![]() And it wasn’t coming from my Bivvy; well not all of it. As I said the forecast, well it was wrong we had beautiful day, blue skies and no wind ![]() I arrived at the lake at 14:30 and to my surprise no Claudia as yet, so looking at the lake and going with my gut (I know its huge how could I possibly be wrong) feeling, I went with choosing pegs 6 and 7, and being there first I choose peg 7. Claudia turned up about half an hour later, she look a little p’d off for me taking peg 7, but as a trooper, she set herself up in peg 6. ![]() I was the first to have a run not the carp I hoped for but a nice bream of 3lb or so. ![]() Then in the evening after a lovely takeaway, I managed a small carp of around 4lb. ![]() Ahh one thing I didn’t mention, Claudia on her arrival rang me and sort after my assistance the resident Geese decided that they would mug her on her way through to the peg. This became a cry for help all weekend as I braved the Killer Geese and put my life on the line to protect Claudia from being attacked. ![]() Any way back to the story, with false bites all the time in my swim and, feeling a little tired from the hospital I decided to call it a night at 10:30, but I did say that Claudia would get one next. At 11:00 ish Claudia had a screaming run and fishing light tackle produced this awesome fish weighing in at 19lb 4ozs, and she was using 8lb main line and 7lb hook length I was very impressed and she should put this fish up for fish of the month for May. ![]() Day Two:- with Claudia catching the 19lb Carp the night before we awoke in good spirits and looking forward to the day. This time Claudia was the first to catch, a Tench at around 4lb mark, but as the day wore on I did manage to catch a nice common of 13lb. ![]() And with 1 more Tench caught and a small carp. The day was very quiet and not much came out. Claudia had arranged to go dancing that night and disappeared off at 6pm ![]() Matt AKA Fullcreel turned up to fish as Claudia left and fished for an hour or so and caught a nice Tench ![]() As the evening wore on I caught another small carp and 10lb common, but being on my poor lonesome I could only take a photo of the fish in the Net. ![]() Claudia return at 11:00pm but it wasn’t long before we called it a night, leaving the rods out I went to bed, with 30 mins I was fed up with the skimmers and small Tench taking the bait, this time as the night before I took the rods out. Day 3:- As I awoke to the sound of rain on the Bivvy I knew that the proposed possibility of another night was not going to happen as the forecast for the Friday was not looking good, so on getting up and going over to Claudia’s bivvy and saw that she was spark out. So being the gentleman, I did the honorable thing I shouted at her to wake up. We spoke about spending the day at the lake and packing up in the afternoon. The day went very well with me catching another common, Claudia said that it was the same fish as the 13lber, but I wasn’t certain and even looking at the photos Claudia may have been right. The weight of the second fish went 12lb 6, but with my scales I wasn’t certain. ![]() That was the final fish of the day and by the time we packed up the heavens opened and as we left we were both soaked to the sink. I had a great three days and really enjoyed the company, thanks Trouble. Here are a few more photos of the trip. ![]() ![]() ![]() __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: The classic “Attack of the killer Geese” or 3 days at Crockerton Well, not much I can add to Steve's great report, besides that bl**dy gander will end up in the pot next time ![]() ......worse than a guard dog, it attacked me once so I had to wollap him on on the beak and he still wouldn't back off.Cracking 3 days at Crockerton in great company again, great venue, not as easy as some people might think, it's not a big lake, only about 3 acres but don't let that fool you, the carp are not that easy to come by. I was well chuffed with my linear, considering the lake record so far is only 24lb. I wasn't plagued as much by tench as Steve did, as I used shelflive boilies instead of fresh ones...but I still managed 2 nice tench, the biggest about 3lb 8oz ![]() The two local white ducks however were far more friendlier then the geese, in fact, so friendly I could hand feed them ![]() And here a picture of the local 'terrible twins' Steve and Matt ![]() Matt having a battle with a very bizarre creature lol ![]() ![]() I never did find out who won lol. Thursday came and the rain sat in and wouldn't stop ![]() ![]() So we ended up packing up getting soaked to the bones.....but it was well worth it and I'm looking forward to our next trip to Crockerton......... Next time the gander is going to get it.....my foot up his a#*e Thanks Steve for fighting my battle with the geese __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |
