When all else fails- back to basics

I've had a dire month, it really has been bad! Several blanks on the trot and last time out I fished 6 hours, and landed 1 tiny perch on the spinner. So after an early trap from work, I decided to go back to basics, bought half a pint of mixed maggots and headed off to Meadow View fishery (Statham) near Lymm. I'd not been there before so had no experience of the place to draw on. The sun was out, a strong wind was blowing and I set up at the narrow end of the far lake, right in the corner with the wind blowing strongly in my face.

I picked the swim because the wind was blowing into it, (all the other occupied pegs bar 1 were on the opposite bank, out of the wind and basking in the sun) I set up my quiver tip with a mogggot feeder, and 5 minutes later landed my first golden orfe around 1 1/4lb, a lovely fish and I was absolutely chuffed! After that I didn't get a single knock for an hour on the feeder, so switched to a waggler and fished between 18" and 2' from the surface. The bites just kept on coming! I was loose feeding the maggots into 3 separate swims no more than 6 foot apart, and switching spots when the bites dried up. Looking around the lake, no one else seemed to be feeding their swims, so it was a tactic that paid off for me. The final haul came in at
1 golden orfe
2 tench
2 perch
2 commons to 6lb (luncheon meat got the common carp)
2 mirrors to 3lb (maggots)
around 20 rudd and roach.

No buzzers, 1 rod a slice of meat and half a pint of maggots. Keeping it simple got me a cracking day!

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself Chappa.
You cant beat good old maggots for a good mixed bag.
Meats always a good carp and tench bait aswell.
My top 3 basic baits for pleasure fishing are:
1) Maggot
2) Meat (summer)
3) Corn (Winter)
