| My first trip to Berkley Lake Steve phoned me and asked me if I wanted to join him at Berkley Lake on Saturday. He was going to give some youngsters/beginners free tuition for the day, which he advertised in the local tackle shop, to get the younger generation interested in our sport. I only just joined the Warminster club and not fished or seen the lake before, so I thought it would be a good idea to join Steve and if needed to lend him a helping hand. Sadly the turn out wasn’t that great, 10 people were suppose to turn up for tuition but only an elderly gentlemen and a young lad with his dad and granddad acctually made it. Another of Steve’s friend turned up to help with the lessons, so I could go and find a nice swim to have a dabble. Also Berkley holds some carp to lower doubles, it is a very good venue for silver fishing, so I decided to fish the waggler for the day. I found myself a nice swim where I was protected from the wind, set up my rod with 4lb mainline, 2lb hook length, “18 hook and a 3BB waggler. There was no need to cast far, as the fish were right under my rod tip, around 3ft deep. I was catching steadily throughout the whole day, mainly roach and the odd pasty. Here some pictures of the lake ![]() ![]() ![]() The young student with one of his fish and his tutor next to him ![]() Steve’s friend giving lesson to the other student, an elderly gentlemen ![]() Ian aka Greenheart also turned up around midday to come to say hello and to go on to a fossil hunt, which a few have been found around the lake before. I wasn’t out on a big catch, just doing some relaxing and catching a few tiddlers.......and relaxing it certainly was.. ![]() With quite a few bites in between ![]() ![]() I stopped to have a break in between a couple of time to walk over to the others to see how the tuition was progressing. By 2.30pm the students were gone and I was going to carry on fishing for a bit until Ian mentioned that Steve was also packing up and there were going down the pub for a pint. Needless to say, I was packed up in no time, ready for an afternoon pint too. Berkley is a lovely lake, very secluded from any noise, idyllic and perfect for waggler or pole fishing. __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

I repaired my box, bought the clips on ebay, the blokle only lived around the corner and popped them round to me, so today i managed to fix the box ;-) __________________ Born to fish made to work |

| Re: My first trip to Berkley Lake When Steve dropped his box, the lid of the maggot box came off and all the maggots got spilled in to his bag...so he had to empty his whole bag out to get rid of the maggots...no doubt there were a couple left in there lol __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |

| Re: My first trip to Berkley Lake Lol. Glad You Had a Good Relaxing Day. It's Good to See Younger People Getting into Fishing. I only did Because Of a mate, i think the fishing buisness has the potential to boom, if people recognise it, and cherish it. Regards, Rob. |
