| Peg 5 at Crockerton Today saw me back at Crockerton, I decided that I would fish the afternoon and the evening. On arrival I found the lake quite full, which is a good sign, means that the water is being used. Any way I had a wander around the lake checking that every one there was a member of the club, and using the walk to decide where I was going to fish. Usually I have my favorite pegs but today all of them had been taken. Well after everyone had been checked and all were found to be members I found a swim I was going to fish. Peg 5, not one of my favorite pegs in fact I think I have only ever fished it once before, a very long time ago and far as I remember I struggled. {View of the lake from peg 5} ![]() I really fancied fishing the wagglar up in the water, and it also gave me the chance to try my new reel out as well, so with my normal set up with a 1 ½ AA insert wagglar I started to fish. I started slowly feeding by introducing a few maggots into the swim every other cast and as I fed the bites started to materialize, with some nice roach and good sized skimmers, I started to build up a decent catch. {View from behind my box} ![]() As the afternoon moved on, I noticed that an angler on the far bank had hooked into a good fish and not one to miss an opportunity for the club website, I wandered around to see the fish and take a photo, on arrival I saw what I knew would be a club new record, even without the fish being weighed, the fish looked a good 20Lb. ![]() ![]() ![]() Yep I was right, the fish was a new club record for the common carp weight = 20lb.15oz, a fantastic fish and I was glad I was there to witness the fish; Ian who was the angler who caught the fish was so chuffed I thought that he was going to dance. Well I went back to my fishing and on my return I hooked into a nice Bream of around 3lb, which was nice as I was fishing up in the water and I didn’t expect to catch Bream today. By around 6pm I found that the bites were becoming a lot slower, I had set up the pole to fish the margin for the evening and I had been feeding the margin peg all afternoon with meat, well I felt that it was time to try my luck in the margin. My first put produced the mighty stick fish, all of 4ft in length a mighty beast if I do say so myself. However, the next bite was a fish, my first Tench of the Season and 1 ½ points as well. ![]() I fished until 7pm and I had caught some nice fish, two nice Bream, a Nice Perch, a Tench and some good quality Roach. ![]() Overall not a bad day! Especially on non favored peg __________________ Born to fish made to work |
