| with a weekend free of any commitments in between two weeks away working long days some time on the bank seemed in order, so Saturday afternoon saw me throwing some bits into the car & heading up to Higher Farm Lakes near Wincanton where I've recently had some lovely warm evenings sport surface fishing. Well, that wasn't going to happen this time ...damn, that wind felt cold after recent conditions and I was forced to fish (unsuccessfully) on the bottom till the wind finally backed off enough to get out the fly rod & some 'dog biscuit' flies. Three good carp came to that method all between 4 & 6 lb - great fun on the light tackle. With the light fading & the temperature dropping it was time to head for the pub for me to celebrate and Matt (fullcreel) who joined me for the end of the session & lost a very good fish after a 10min battle to commiserate Sunday morning I went off to Standerwick Boot Sale , possibly just an excuse to drive past Berkeley lake & stop in for a quick pre lunch cast or two and try out my new controller float. The float worked fine and gave me three carp on dog biscuits & 'magic bread' but the fish were a bit reluctant to come to the surface & when I saw some nosing around in the silt right under my feet I had to improvise and a swan shot pinched on got the bait down to them & got me two more carp making five fish all around five pounds. Feeling somewhat buoyed up by this and facing a possible 5 days with no fishing I decided to round of the weekend with another evening session at Higher Farm ''on the fly''. With the air still and the lower lake to myself things looked promising, till that is , I realised I'd lost my carp flies, s**t ,damn & **** ! I did have some trout flies with me so tried a dry fly (adams) but the carp remained unimpressed if not positively insulted by my offering. so out of desperation I tried a fat sinking fly- A muddler but covered it in line grease to make it float in the hope that it would resemble a carp pellet that the Lake owner feeds in .Well, 10 minutes later a confident take suggested I was onto something and after about twenty minutes of bending my light 5wt trout rod into interesting curves. I was weighing my new PB and first ever 'double' at 10 1/2 Lbs. chuffed to bits I packed up and as I loaded the car I felt something in my Jacket pocket ... my box of bloody carp flies !! ![]() Anyway it's been a great weekend and I'm quite getting into this fluff flinging lark , in fact I'm off to Chew reservoir next week to get some casting lessons. |

| Great read JP. If you want some lessons at Chew, Dognobbler's the man to speak to. He knows the place like the back of his hand. Try sending him a PM __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
