| Managed an early finish at work yesterday, so made a quick dash home, got changed, grabbed my fishing gear & some bait from the village tackle shop & by around 3pm I was set up and fishing on Berkley lake which is about a five minute drive from my house. The great thing about mid-week fishing is that I had the whole lake to myself. There were plenty of carp cruising around on the surface that appeared to be eating a hatch of Hawthorn fly. But as I had no floating baits, I set up a pole rig with some mussel paste fished hard on the bottom. An almost immediate bite resulted in this cracking Rudd which is usually a surface feeding species... ![]() I was'nt complaining as I needed a Rudd for the species hunt. I catapulted out a few pouches of maggots & mini pellets & soon had a steady stream of good Roach & small carp comming to the net. Another 1.5 points for the Common Carp, but no matter how hard I tried, I could'nt get a Mirror which I also needed. I did hook a couple of good fish, but in both case's the hook pulled out, in spite of the fact that I was using a size 12 tied direct to 6lb line. Later in the evening Matt (Fullcreel) & Bananna Steve arrived. They were trying to locate a leak in the lake that has caused the water level to drop. However Steve could'nt resist the offer of a loan of my pole for a few minute's while Matt was off leak hunting... ![]() I eventually had to pack up as it started to get dark. Sadly no big carp, although the roach & rudd were a good size & it definately beats working... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |
