| Lake, Sun, Tranquillity = Heaven The weather has been so kind to us in the past few days, that I thought I’d best get out on the banks before the weather might turn. I decided to have a day at Todber Manor, Wadmill lake...I arrived at Todbers tackle shop 8.15am, bought a ticket and some pellets and headed straight down the lake. I had 2 rods in the water by 9.15am, 8lb mainline, 6lb hook length, “12 hook. 8mm pellet as bait on the left rod, 14mm cranberry boilie on the right one. I was fishing between the second and third island which has proven many times before to be productive. I cast the left rod in to the margin of the island and the right rod about 8-10 feet to the right of the island, there runs a gully which the carp seem to patrol. View to the left ![]() View to the right ![]() My swim ![]() I didn’t have to wait for my first run, which came from the margin of the island but sadly the fish spat the hook, so out went the rod again on to the same spot. Next run came around 12.30pm, on the same rod and this time I managed to land the fish, a nice common of 9lb7oz....I didn’t take a picture as I wanted to return the fish asap, by this time the sun was bright and hot, so I didn’t want to keep the fish out of the water too long. I missed another 2 runs and at around 2.30pm I managed to land the biggest fish of the day....a 10lb15oz mirror. ![]() Not the best picture but I didn’t want to stress the fish too long by leaving it out of the water any longer. I just returned this one when my other rod screamed off and this time I had a koi/ghosty one of around 5lb ![]() I kept feeding the margin up to my right, as I knew the fish would come in around tea time......things went a little quiet between 3-4pm but started to pick up again around 4.15pm when I had another run, this time I got snapped off at the net. Around 4.30pm I decided to put my right rod in to the margin I have been feeding up and left the right rod in the margin at the island......things went mental for about 45 mins....I’d hardly released one catch and the other rod went. At one stage I still had one fish in the net, ready to release when my other rod went....so, let in one hand, trying to release the fish, rod in the other hand, trying to keep the tension in the line lol. Some more piccis.....a by -passer took one shot for me ![]() ![]() End result of the day: 7 fish caught, smallest 3lber, biggest 10lb 15oz 4 fish lost And a blooming sunburn on my arms and nose :-O All in all a very pleasant days fishing __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving |
