went for the magnificent 7 got the famous five

went out to the kiaora ponds today for a relaxed afternoon and maybe some points
when fished here last yrear baggie got 7 species so that was my target to beat

managed to get a pint of maggots and also had some sweetcorn and luncheon meat from tesco plus a 1/2 bag of old breadcrumbs and a thermos of hemp

got there and set up for 2.30 and made up a rough groundbait of all the above ingrediants and sent 2 balls out

was only fishing light with 1 float rod with 6lb line and 4lb hooklink ( yes i know thats quite heavy but i know what regularry happens here and did today) a 3bb waggler and size 16 hook and maggot

other was the 1 3/4 barbel rod with 8lb line a 1/2 oz bomb and 6lb hookleangth and size 8 hair useing sweetcorn and luncheon meat

bites on the float rod came steadily from the off and all were worth points
first in was a rudd ( first of hundreds the lake is full of the 2 inch baitrobbers)

followed shortly by a roach

then silver bream


then the enevitable homed into the action from all the small fish and the first of several perch came in


nothing was happening on the ledger rod, even though a guy opposite had the carp running well
then whilst watching the swans WHALLOP the float rod was almost pulled out my hand and was bent right over

now i was glad i had that heavy hook link but was still worried about the small hook and was in for a great fight and after a good 5 min plus a 6 1/2 lb mirrors in the net


i was well chuffed, settled down and recast the float rod and WHALLOP again

this time a bit smaller at 4 1/2 lb but another great fight


all bites all day had been on maggot so just before the end I baited up the hook on the ledger rod with about 20 maggot and after 5 minute result, i hear the baitrunner go ( never take alarms here as is so peacefull they areent needed( although guy opposite had som load enough for whole lake to hear ))


the fish was so dark on way in i though i had got a tench but no such luck

all the carp here fight well on the lighter set ups

in the end the light and millions of rudd beat us , it was a rud or roach every cast now which was still good fun but i wanted a tench

but ended up with 5 new species and a tan
and looks like i may need to return for the tench, crucian, and gudgeon

great read dave & some nice fish.
i'm still waiting for my carp, i know they're in the lake ... just case of catching them lol.
at least you got more points, my last outing didn't secure anything new for me lol

Nice one. Have to say a little glad you didn't get the 7 as we are just starting to catch up with the pack and 7 would send you so far ahead again :-)

my freshwater licence just came throught he post this morning, going to start fishing the same way as pingu did today after carp and bream and tench. cant wait. not going to give up the sea fishing though
