my latest day out on the lake

my girlfriend had her monthly wedding planning meeting yesterday, so had the day to myself & decided to go to silt lake at tilgate park again.
after my last outing (good friday) there wasn't brilliant, i thought i'd try some new things properly, so off to my local tackle shop, got my maggotts, 1 bag of van den eynde ground bait mix & 1 bag of van den eynde 8mm carp pellets.
also had some bread & a few fake baits.
was really lovely weather, with just a light breeze & occasional blow.
some kind anglers that had been there recently had left some rubbish around the peg i was on & left their evidence behind, this included a 5ltr water bottle, which i put to use ... filled with lake water & used that to wet my groundbait mix & pellets, needless to say i took the bottle home with me for next time.
set my carp rods up with feeders suitable for the pellets, had the maggotts my 2 spare bait tubs with my pellets & groundbait by my feet (no bait table yet lol) & off i went, 1st cast was about 11 & was a bit slow to start. had a few bites & a few i wasn't sure if it was just another of the blows of wind, but noticed the tip moving slightly with no breeze or wind, reeled in & more gudgeon & baby perch. a few definate bites landed me some nice roach, then a hefty bite that took the rod round, i struck & it was something big on there taking the line off to my left, it came up to the surface & fell off .
a few more lil'uns & roach, it was getting on for 4 & the time i'd told the girlfriend i was going to pack up, but still had some prepared groundbait & pellets left, so decided to carry on, glad i did ...
with 1 of the rods in a nice straight line to the bait, the rod slid forward on the pod nice & gentle, i stuck & could feel something heavy again & hoping it will stay on the hook, 1st the line went to the right, than to the left, but always towards me, managed to keep it away from the small tree to me left & out from under my platform, straight into my net, it was another really nice tench 3-4lbs, just a little bit smaller than my previous last month., just enough mix for 1 last cast, then after about 15-20 minutes of nothing, i decided to call it a day.
whilst packing up, i saw a group of lads fishing the corner peg landing something big, when i went past, they asked how i got on, so told them & asked what they landed, they said it was a common, but they didn't weigh it before putting it back.
i didn't take any pics as to be honest, forgot to get the camera out, but i'm not too worried as there weren't any points to claim for the species hunt.
the catches weren't as many, but possibly because the last 2 weeks have been school holiday & good weather down here over the weekend, so the fish have peobably had plenty to eat recently. may try later in the week with possibly an overnighter with lilman (will be his 1st overnighter) or later next week, hopefully the fish will be a little more responive to baits then. may even try some other pegs to see what they produce.

Re: my latest day out on the lake

cheers mate, don't get out as much as i'd like ... still job hunting, so got to go carefull with cash & mrs doesn't want me out fishing all the time, especially as we found out she's expecting & due early december, so got to move wedding now as that was early december lol.
sad thing is, whoever fished that peg would've had to walk past at least 1 big bin when leaving. i guess like most responsible anglers, i have a carrier bag in my seat box & a rucksack for my food & drink, all my rubbish either goes into the rucksack, or is fwet or smelly, then into the carrier bag & either put in the nearby bins or take home.
no excuses for leaving anywhere in a mess. at least someone else spent the money buying a 5ltr bottle of water that i've pocketed lol
