A late easter Fishing Report

This report is a little late, however, here goes.

Last weekend saw the Easter Bank Holiday and Ian and I had arranged to fish the K&A Canal at Devizes on Monday. So I decided that I would fish my club waters over the weekend. Friday I would fish Berkley Lake.

I don’t normally fish this lake as the walk is not for the faint hearted. However, the lake does contain a good head of Carp up to 8lb and there are alot of wildies in the lake, also there are rumors of a good head of quality Roach as well.

Well I arrived at Berkley on the Friday morning at around 9am, the weather wasn’t the best very overcast and the threat of rain hanging around.
Because of the wind and the fact I didn’t want to fish the pole, I decided to fish the waggler. I decided that I would fish my usual style with an insert Waggler and fish on the drop and feed maggots with the hope of catching some nice Roach.
Within a couple of minutes I caught my first fish, a small Roach of around 2ozs, so much for the quality Roach. However the next cast produced a lovely Roach weighing in at 12ozs

As the day moved on I continued to catch some really good Roach up to 13ozs. Enjoying the Roach fishing I hit into a Carp, which gave a good account of its self. Not massive but good fun on the lighter set up.

As the day wore on the rain decided to move in and with the wind straight into my face a brolly was a no-no, it wasn’t long before everything was getting wet and I was getting cold. Before I decided to call in a day I caught one more fish, a fish that made my day, a lovely Rudd at 12 oz’s and that made the whole day for me, 1 ½ points in the bag.

The Next day saw me at Crockerton, A better day and a hint of sun as well, with the clouds a lot thinner and no sign of rain, and after returning from a bit of shopping I saw myself at the lake at 12pm. I arrived at the lake to find one angler there and two others leaving, after checking that they were all members I decided to fish peg 7, no real reason apart from ease.

I set up the pole as the wind was very light and I fancied some fun on the pole, my main line of attack was maggot as with the day before but this time I used corn and a small amount of meat. It took a while to catch my first fish and on retrieving the fish I found that the water temp was still quite cold. The fish came steady throughout the day with some nice roach up to 10oz’s and on the pole and with a light elastic and fine set up they were good fun.

I stayed until 5pm and decided to call it a day. I wasn’t fishing on Sunday as I had arranged to Fix Ian’s PC so Monday was to be the next trip to the K&A canal with Ian.

Well on arriving on the Canal on the Monday saw both of us struggle, as told by Ian in his report. But what made the day for me was I did catch a silver bream for 1 ½ point Woohoo.

Here are a couple of pictures of the day. One being the Silver Bream

And finally Ian’s Perch

Overall not a bad Easter weekends fishing.
