| I managed to talk Bananna Steve into joining me for a spot of fishing on the Kennet & Avon canal today (Bank Holiday Monday) I should have known better that to attempt to fish this water which is the canal barge equivalent of the M25, on a sunny bank holiday (Sorry Steve) But i've been trying, un-successfully, for the last four years to catch a Ruffe for the species hunt & this peice of water is reputed to hold them. Needless to say, todays attempt was also fruitless. If fact the fishing was absolutely dire. Steve & I spent a total of fourteen hours fishing today, for a grand combined total of six fish . Not sure why it was so hard, as apart from the heavy boat traffic, conditions looked perfect. Steve spent the day pole fishing & trying to tempt a fish from beneath the over-hanging far bank vegetation & also covered the nearside bank of his swim with a shorter bleak whip. I spent the day searching the full width of the canal using my trusty old Sigma Wand quivertip. On the plus side, we both managed some species hunt points. I managed two new species, a Perch & a Silver Bream & Steve also had a Silver Bream. Highlights of the day were when a small Roach deadbait that I put out in the hope of a Pike was picked up by a nice size Perch. And also watching a massive but very beautiful one hundred & ten year old barge (Built 1899) come chugging past. Although the fishing was pretty dire, the weather was beautiful & we also saw a couple of early swallows fly past, so summer is truely here. We rounded the day off with a couple of hard earned drinks in a canal side pub in Devizes... __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey... |

| Re: Another hard day on the K&A Shame about the fish, we'll get some ruffe for you from the Brue. On that subject, we can fly fish on a catch and release basis one eve soon if you're up for it. Only a couple of monthes to go before we can catch a ruffe from the brue using 'trad tactics, ledgered maggie works well. |
