fishing with my nephew

hi all, took my nephew fishing today for his birthday treat.
as normal, i chose tilgate.
i really should've got some maggotts yesterday, but not thinking, i thought i'd get them on the way, suprise suprise, the tackle shop was shut today. not best of starts.
had plenty of castors, some sorry looking maggotts, bread & hot cross bun (as sliced loaf) & my nephew brought both ground & regular trout pellet.
after our little hiccup, we went off to the lake, parked up & strolled off to the pegs we were going to use.
glad we brought our umbrella's, we certainly needed them thoughout the day!
we both set up the same, both my carp rods set up with feeder, using ground trout pellet, castor & maggot mix, (we both used 1 rod each) & set up or other rods to float.
i dropped the float in below the rod tip & almost immediately started getting bites, out came some nice tiddlers, minnow, gudgeon & pirch ...

we're wondering if the pirch record is in danger with my little catch?
i changed to feeder on that rod after the bites to float dired up.
i had a few nibbles to the feeder, tried castors, pellet, bread, maggott, hot cross bun & ground pellet.
my nephew had nothing to float, despite dropping his in the water by a fallen branch, hoping it was providing refuge for some.
however, he had a better time of it on his feeder, but kept to just ground pellet, pellet, castor & maggott. he caught a few roach & skimmers & a very nicel bream to 1.5lbs.
in all, despite the weather, we had a really good day.
just goes to show though, both set up the same & using the same baits & only fishing a few yards apart, we were having totally different results.

Re: fishing with my nephew

Glad it's not just me then. Dave and I normally fish yards apart, same bait, same tatic's, yet he seems to catch fish at the moment and I don't. Frustating ain't it?

Sounds like you had a good day though..

Re: fishing with my nephew

despite the weather, it was good fun.
lilman didn't join us as he's still got to get his licence & i'm not letting him go untill he does, despite offering to pay for it, he is determined to get pay for it himself (once he saves his pocket money, rather than spendig it on phone credit lol).
it is weird how we were only a few feet apart & using exactly the same baits & set ups, but totally different results. didn't get frustrated, but we were having a laugh about it & i told my nephew i let him win as it was his birthday treat, but i don't think he believed me lol.
i think i'd have had bigger fish if i'd dropped my hook in my fish tank!!! am thinking of entering the perch into the april fish of the month, just hope other forum members have the bottle to go up against it
do points count for species hunt if i'm not fishing with my team member?
