Rib Valley Herts

I was going to fish the canal at Enfiled Lock today but through no fault of my own.... I ended up fishing Westmill Lake at the above today.

Although Ive fish Rib Valley many many times, this was the first time I set out with a rod and float to catch some silver fish.

Upon arrival... I got some helpful advice from Neil in the tackle shop and decided to fish the river side of the lake with a 3 pound hook link using a size 16 hook... pinkies and red maggots. I was feeding maggots intermittently all morning but nothing. Although I did see a very nice tench of about 5 pounds caught towards the end of the morning... I think most people were struggling.

Into the afternoon ....and I managed to hook what felt like a very heavy fish but the hook detached from the Kamasan hook link and all was lost.

Later in the afternoon I managed to hook an immaculate looking Roach and I was hopeful my method had finally got them feeding... but after a few line bites and plenty of maggots sucked from the hook ..... nothing.

The fish seemed very finnicky indeed at Rib Valley today ... none were seen on the surface or in others landing nets etc... so assume every one was struggling badly.

Anyway... here's looking forward to more fish in the summer.....tight lines.
