Six month absents

I sat down the other day and realised that it has been six months since I last fished Crockerton. So with that in mind I made my mind up to fish there on Saturday the 7th.
Well that was up to Thursday, when I changed my mind and thought about fishing Todber, but by Friday evening I had re-changed my mind and decided on fishing Crockerton.

After a nice lay in, I set off at 8:00am. On arrival I noticed that the car park was empty, the whole lake to myself woowhoo I thought. Right peg 3 it will be then, as I was unloading the car another car turned up and a young lad with his father, they quickly unloaded their car and shot down to the lake, bugger I was still faffing around. As I went to the lake sitting in Peg 3 was the lad; “Poo!”

Anyway I decided to fish peg 7 instead, so of I trundled. I set-up my pole to fish at 8mtrs and around 10ft deep nicely on the bottom. I also set up my Barbel rod for Carp on the bite alarm.
As I started to fish, Matt (Fullcrell) turned up to say hello before he shot of for work. He didn’t stay long but he did say that he would pop back later. At this point I asked him if could bring some bags with him, as behind my swim in bushes there was loads of rubbish.

Considering cans are banned and the rules state no rubbish is to be left behind it’s amazing how much rubbish left behind. If it’s one thing that grips my poo, it’s people who don’t take their rubbish away with them. Matt did come back later as I was packing up, matt spent 30 mins collecting up the rubbish he could get at.

Any way I will step of my soap box.

Back to the fishing

As the first hour went by I had no bites from the pole or the Barbel rod.
I started off on the pole very gently feeding very lightly, but this wasn’t working so I stepped up the feed, with a couple of mins I started to catch small perch. Over the next two hours I was catching a fish every 10mins, nothing big but at least I was catching. As the day wore on I managed a few better fish on the pole, a nice roach of 10ozs and some hybrids of around the same mark and a nice perch of around 8-10ozs. I had nothing on the Barbel rod, and by 1:30pm when Mat turned up I decided to call it a day. It may have not been the best days fishing at Crockerton but at least I didn’t blank like last week.
Roach = 1.5 points

Perch = 1.5 points

The Days Catch

By 3:30pm I was at home turfing out my shed and reorganizing my tackle “ooh ere missus”
It’s amazing how much crap you collect, saying to yourself it may come in handy one day, it never does!!!

Re: Six month absents

Nice report Steve. Totally agree with you on the litter bit. People chuck litter in the bushes in the summer. Winter arrives all the foliage dies back & the litter is exposed. Next thiung we lose the fishery. Idiots... I think we may have to organise an annual autunm works party to sort this problem before it becomes too obvious.
