First dip of the year

Hi all,
This newbi fine weather angler(lol) has at last dusted off his rods and dipped
them in his favourite lake.
Monday morning I set off with great enthusiasm as usual, eager to try out
some new baits I have made.
Having done all the preliminaries I settled down and waited, and waited .....
and waited.
Finally decided that even if I was up for it the fish definitely were not!!
So,no fish but a fine day and it was great to get ready for the coming season
when, with some warmth,I know my lake will come alive.

Tight lines everyone.

nightriderm

Re: First dip of the year

bad luck mate, at least you can use the excuse of preseason warm up ... i knew a guy that was always testing his dragster whenever he took it to the strip, at least that was his excuse for lifting off mid run, although i think 5 years testing same car is a bit excessive lol.
which lake do you use?
is the 1 next to the bypass road any good? (just up & round from combe haven)

Bit slow everywhere at the moment mate. I'm sure things will improve when the weather settles down a bit.

Re: First dip of the year

asp383.
No m8,the lake I fish for the most part is a private lake on the Romney Marshes.Contains Tench(had them to 10lb.)
Roach,Dace, these have come into the lake by natural means,ie;on the feet of water fowl. Also there are some very nice Carp,up to 24lb,my biggest from the lake is 12.5lb.
Lots of natural food so very hard fished, can never tell when they will be "in the mood".
Have mostly caught on Corn, maggots attract only the small ones and worms only eels, biggest eel I have caught there was just over 4lb.No predator fish in the water.

Re: First dip of the year

I think you mean the lake on the ring road, near our Tescos.
I have never fished there but know some that have, they say it's quite good with a nice head of Carp but one has to get there early as it fills up very quickly especially holiday time and week-ends.
One guy I know fishes there using the method, consisting of sweetcorn and porridge!! does quite well on it I believe.
