Finally, fish from the Stour, I decided that as the weather was so good I'd go for my first "unfrozen" trip to the River Stour near Stourbridge . With the warmth came the fish. Caught about a dozen dace (2 big uns I reckon were over 3/4 LB ) , a gudgeon and 2 LB Chub. Lost a couple of fish that I reckon were problably chub too by the way they initially fought. Considering the amount of time I've been at this place this represented a good result and I reckon there's much more fish still there. What was especially good was that I'd made some dome top wire sticks specifically so I could still see them when they went under dense bankside bushes (just can't see the tops of finer floats) and it was one of these that the chub got caught one. Result! With just a week left of the river season (I've got a prior commitment on the 14th that I am not going to miss even for fishing ) I'm going to give it one last go on the Teme next week. Assuming Mrs BB doesn't say "oh I thought I told you, I'm working Sunday" , Grrr!! But then again she has to put up with me so I'll cut her some slack :) __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk

Sounds like a good days fishing BB. Do you make all your own floats? __________________ Don't Judge My Path If You Haven't Walked My Journey...

Re: Finally, fish from the Stour, I do make quite a few. I'm in process of making some surface controllers for carp. I tend to make a batch up and try them out, if they work great, if not then it's no big deal. Apart from the obvious cost element there's also the fact that you can then make a custom made job for specific situations if you want. Of course I am still a magpie when it comes to floats in tackle dealers so the majority of my floats are still commercial jobs. I'm also about to put some wire stem avons together too soon. When I come to paint them though it's no work of art, they look homemade but as far as I am concerned a lot of floats catch more anglers than fish anyway (me included). My all time fishing hero had to be the late and great Ivan Marks and his philosophy of what a float is actually for has stuck in my mind. There's few things in angling as special as helping someone else start or catching fish on gear you made yourself. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
