| 1st sucessful fishing trip of the year i decided to pop over to tilgate lake yeasterday, only 5 minutes from home. took my future brother-in-law with me, stopped at jack frosts 1st to get the maggotts, a new twin tip rod & rod pod. although the ake was fishing well, we decided to go to the smaller top lake, where the fish are smaller easier for beginners like my b-i-l. we chose 2 pegs next to each other, set at 45 degrees, ideal as i could keep an eye on him i got him set up first, gave him my old rod pod & he was away. got myself set up, carp rod had a cage feeder & the new rod had basic ledger. about 40 minutes in & the bites started. he landed 1 small bream (his 1st fish) & i landed 5 bream. my b-i-l may have missed more as i had to keep telling him to wind his line tighter & his bait kept going. i may have missed some while helping him out. only fishing for 5 hours, but i didn't think it was too bad a bag not knowing what the smaller lake was fishing like. we even timed packing up spot on ... started raining just as i did up the last zip of my net bag. |

| Re: 1st sucessful fishing trip of the year thanks guys. my future b-i-l is only 14, so he was quite excited about it, he wanted to land it, but left me to unhook it lol. i try not to walk round it in 1 go, it's quite deceptive when you look at it, then try walking it & it feels so much longer!!!! the main lake looked like it was mainly people fishing for carp & only a father & son on the smaller lake we fished. luckily we were on the opposite side to the wall seperating the 2 lakes, so we didn't see anyone come past us (not even the baliff). the father & son kept having people stop & chat with them though. i've been told the best places to fish the main lake are along the wall, or about 1/2 way up either side, but keep away from the overflow at the end of the wall. i don't think it matters too much in the smaller lake as you can get a decent swim from most pegs. i know all 4 of us caught. & now a little trivia, tilgate lake is also known as cambell lake (according to a plaque by the lake) as it was used by the cambells for the testing of bluebird. |
