| Saturday and Sunday :-) Well I made it out both days, saturday I worked til 1.30ish, and crept down to Berkley Lake as soon as I had had some warm food in me. The wind was pretty bitter, JP was already down there, trying to find some shelter from the wind. The sun was hidden by featureless clouds and it was pretty rough, but sticking with it, I managed to catch a roach on maggot feeder, no joy of my magic paste for a while. About 1/2 way through the session, I decided to moved about 50 yds closer to the way in, this paid off with hald a dozen mmore roach, none bigger than 3oz and a small wild carp on paste. My forst points in my first species Hunt, sadly for some reason I did not get a photo of the wildie, but there will be many others so not too worry. The wind got worse, and I decided to pack up as the the sun went down, as apposed to my usual hour into darkness. As I got to within 100m of home, i was stopped by fallen power lines. That meant a 5 mile round trip to get into the house, no power, for 6 hours, which was fun for a while, then a pain. ![]() Here's my roach Sunday I decided to try the Lower Lake at Higher Farm, last year I fished the upper and middle lake. My swim. I started fishing to the Island, but soon found better fish on the far bank, a good work out for the float rod I picked up quick before christmas. ![]() I started with a copy opf the maggot rig I used at Berkley and also set up a waggler rod to try to get some of trhe rudd for which the lake is known for. There are also Orfe in this lake, plus grass carp and a crucians. I did well on the float, the feeder only produced a few gudgeon, (I love them but they were tiny, could have been minnows). The weather ha dbeen bad in the night, we arrived to a coating of hail on the ground. Still we did quite well. I managed a few carp, a common and 2 mirrors, More points for the hunt came when I managed to catch a skimmer bream, lets hope I don't get any other this year. I had a nice carp, about 4lb from the far bank, to cheer me up. ![]() Lovely little fun sized mirror. No Orfe, but I think I had about 10lb by the end of the day. About 4lb of bits, and 6 lb of carp. |
